Peyton Manning to miss entire season

What are the ratings of Thursday night college games compared to regional NFL games?

Betting NFL still wins, even though NCAA has no competition.

It's not a fair comparison.. The real comparison would be a Vol CBS night game vs a Titan home game and the ratings in TN and boardering states.

WHAT PART OF NFL GAMES ARE REGIONAL DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND.

Titans games are typically shown to a relatively small region of the country. all 15 NFL games are split over two networks in two timeslots who split up games into regions.

Vols games on ESPN networks are shown nationally. A vast many more people are able to watch Vols games on ESPN than Titans games. Titans still get better ratings.

so a regional game shown in the home of that team gets better ratings than a national game? Wow

It's a way bigger margin than that. Nationally televised NFL PRESEASON games often get better ratings than BCS Bowl games.

That is hilarious logic. A nationally televised program has a bigger universe of potential homes that can be tuned in. That makes it much harder to match the rating or share of a local market. Not sure where you got your stats, but I work for a TV network and would be happy to dig up correct data for your after this weekend.

ESPN 1-8, espnU, Versus, Big10 etc are all showing games at the same time. How many NFL games are shown at a time?

All can be viewed when considering all channel options. Are you telling me you believe a Wac game on ESPN2 or a Div2 game on ESPNU would still ratings from the premier SEC game on CBS?

All this proves is that the NFL is more popular than college which nobody is arguing. How do you know that someone tuning into a Titans game is a Titans fan and not because they have Chris Johnson on their fantasy team or money on the game?

Not hard to do when they are the only game on TV.. Come on if the Vols were the only game allowed to be on TV the ratings would smash those of the Titans.

I'm a huge Vol fan, but you're blinded my friend. The NFL as a whole gets more support than college. The collge National title game does not pull the ratings of the NFL superbowl.

only if you choose to buy it. And yes, all those games being on does affect the ratings of a game on CBS

no way I would pay for that crap. This isn't about PPV anyway herm

Not everyone pays for all the ESPN and other channels you listed as well. It's not even an option for me to get anything other than ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN news.

Two things:

1) There was an ignoramus a couple pages back that seemed to doubt the NFL was more popular than college. lol.

2) Simple logic. If way more people are interested and invested in one product over another, there is greater chance of a team in that league acquiring fans in a particular region, especially when there are far less NFL teams in that region than college teams.

So to summarize, lots more people watch the NFL. There are a lot fewer NFL teams. More fans to absorb.

Tennessee has 8 border states, only a couple of which have NFL teams of their own. Lots of fans from those states are Titans fans. They all have their own college teams, so there are much smaller percentages of Vols fans in those states.

College football ratings are diluted by the number of games. Yeah, the Titans might have better ratings but that's because they're competing with about 5 (sometimes 0) other games. And just because the ratings are high what makes you think people tuned in to see the Titans? If you polled Tennessee residents the Vols would win and wouldn't be close.

It would be an interesting poll. I think many people would be surprised with the results. There are Bama, Gator, Vandy, GA, and other college fans who live in TN but consider themselves Titans fans.

do you get CBS, ABC and NBC? They all show games too so that would be 5 possible game at any given time on a Sat. Compare that with one in a targeted market and see if there is a difference in your opinion

if UT fans were asked if they'd rather watch a UT game or a titans one what do you think most UT fans would say?

And the same can be said about choosing to buy ESPN 1-8.

I wouldn't stand on the arguement of a MTSU type game pulling ratings from TN. It's not helping your stance of TN being more popular.

Another good one is to look at the size of the radio network. Titans radio network has many stations throughout Kentucky and Alabama, as well as Mississippi and Arkansas.

Vol Radio Network is limited to Tennessee aside from a couple stations in western NC.
