34/49 (70%), broke Brady and Brees record of 32 completions in SB, put DThomas in SB record books w 13 catches.
His D forced 1 punt and got zero turnovers. Think about that.
Manning ran into a buzz saw and did all right. Don't throw him under the bus.
very true but still my horse if he never wins another race...that being said i was having florida flashbacksLOL at touting any SB records after that game.
No one is "throwing him under the bus", just being fair. He's had a parade of praise for the past 2 weeks, and he and the rest of the Broncos got their butts handed to him. None of them played well, but he's the star of the team. He's going to get the most criticism, it comes with the territory.
2 interceptions a fumble and a passer rating of 73.5. Not Manning's best showing.
Dude completes 70 percent of his passes against one of the best Pass Defenses the League has ever seen, has almost 300 yards, throws one interception I'll give to him, one that is because he was made into a sandwich, and he didn't play well? Gosh, I wonder what better quarterbacks would have done against that defense, with his O-line.
He was far from terrible. He got harrassed every time he dropped back. If anyone was terrible it was his o-line. His WR's also got owned.
Seems to me that over the years he hasn't had big time talent surrounding him-that he made average or mediocre players better. Moreno is an example as are a few others. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he had Kent and Nash to throw to but they weren't what they were without him. Now, I think Faulk was good and he clicked with Harrison but other than Jamal when he was a frosh Manning has been making his own success!
His supporting cast didn't have 3 turnovers, he did. All 3 were on him and other throws could have been picked. He could have topped off the greatest season EVER for a QB. This stinks.
Most of his stats were in garbage time. That offense looked lost in the first 3 quarters and it started with him.
Gentlemen, defense wins football games. p.e.r.i.o.d.
I followed P Manning's recruitment out of HS. I saw him play as a freshman in Neyland. I think he's the greatest (or at least of the top 5) of all time, but defense wins championships.
For this reason, I wanted him to go to SF. They have a much better defense and more weapons on offense.
We had Peyton for 4 years - 1 SEC championship and no national championship.
Last night reminded me of his Sr. year against Fla when he threw for 400+ yards and still lost. You just saw an undersized, lightly recruited, heavily doubted QB win a Super Bowl. Why? Good game manager who plays with a great defense and good special teams. He also has a very good RB.
Defense wins championships.
Manning is an AFC type guy. This game shows how weak the AFC has become. Broncos would have been 4th or 5th best team in NFC.
He was bad but the team was worse.
that statement would be made no matter who is around him because he is going to make them look great. that is what great quarterbacks do.

I agree with your overall point here, but Peyton was absolutely terrible tonight and he had one of those games where he just absolutely choked.
