You know as well as I do that it's Dickey. School can recognize '67 all they want but there is no way the fans would be in favor of Dickey having a statue. It's hard to argue that we deserved the '67 NC as the AP and UPI agreed.

I agree with you. I'm simply pointing out that the school would be in an awkward spot if they honored Fulmer because he won an NC while ignoring a coach who, according to them, did the same.

OP called me a moron....this post has been up for 4-5 hours. But when I did the same 5 SEC ago I get infracted and my post gets took down.

Speaking for myself . . . The reason I haven't taken it down is because - contrary to popular belief - I have an actual job and don't always comb VN looking rules violations. If you don't report it, we're not automatically going to see it.

READ again, I said "athletics"....as for the WWII vets who lost their life, HAVE YOU BEEN TO NEYLAND STADIUM???

EDIT: I don't normally get pissed off by...anything....on this board l, but the level of ignorance in this post should not and cannot be understated. We have retired the numbers of former football players who left college to serve their country and paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom. The fact that you question the idea of a statue of those men struck a chord with me.

Learn a little about the history of this state, this university, and this football program before you make an ignorant statement like that again.

Mods keep takin down my post, that I'm trying to put up in reply to your "$&$$&"

You get the idea, how I feel about you.

Quit crying. You made an ignorant, uneducated post. I'd suggest you educate yourself on the history of our program, it's quite interesting and you will become a better poster because of it. Man up and move on.

Not really, especially if there is little to no support for it.

Just caught up to the end of thread. Some really good ideas floating around in here.

Good call GaVol! Kudos to you.

How about "Volunteer Plaza" or "Tennessee Plaza" or Place. Naming it for Fulmer would be ok with me. By the way, his picture is on the outside of the jumbotron

Why not just build a vast hall of honor replete with Volunteer memorabilia, photographs, artwork, and such and call it Volhalla, ala the vast hall from Norse mythology called Valhalla honoring the viking knights of legend? For Vol fans everywhere, Robert Neyland is analogous to Odin anyway.

He coached at UT in different capacity for 28 years, played here...he put in 32 years, won a national championship, put I don't know how many players in the NFL.

As time goes by, and we get further and further from the 1998 Championship without getting another, folks may start to appreciate that he won 100 more games than he lost and that he went to a bowl game 14 out of 16 years. He finished 1st, tied for 1st, or 2nd in the East 13 out of 16years. His teams finished the season ranked in the top 25(coaches poll) 14 out of 16 times, ( 13/16 AP). Finished ranked in the top 10 six times.

I'm not really for honoring folks while they are still around anyway, all these players getting roads named after them is one thing, a statue is another.

Dickey left. Dickey didn't play here. He coached here 7 years, one losing season and three 8 win teams...8 wins was a mediocre season while Fulmer was here. Dickey was a good AD, better than a coach.

My vote is Phillip Fulmer Plaza and have a statue of Fulmer there. We would have both National Championship coaches honored with statues and it would enhance the look of the stadium. What would be your choice for a plaza name?

It would make the stadium look smaller.
