I played pick up ball with some old guys once, one of them hit 17 threes. He never went to college, so 4 years of eligibility?

I always hated playing old guys. We played a team in a summer rec league, they had 2 guys that would shoot it from halfcourt.

When we were in high school a bunch of us used to play every week. The "old guys" team just so happened to be a collection of former all region, conference, and one or two all state guys. Every single one of them could shoot. They've been playing together longer than I've been alive, and if we didn't run them out of the gym in the first quarter on pure athleticism they would beat us by 40 every time (we would play 40 point quarters though, so plenty time to catch up really).

One of the guys is about 5'6 and he shoots tear drop threes. Impossible to guard, you just gotta hope he misses. And he's a prick, calls every foul he possibly can. I've also never seen him miss a free throw and I've played with him for seven years.

Had to guard Rob Murphy in a pick-game a few days ago. I'm 6'3....you can imagine how that went for me...

We played a guy like that. Could shoot the lights out but if he missed and you were near him it was a foul. As the best defender I always guarded him, we would jaw at each other the whole game. He would make crazy 3's over me and he couldn't stop me driving. Needless to say we almost came to blows every single game, we'd be cool before and immediately after but during it was pure war between us during.

Do they have concession stands at this? Just wondering if I need to eat before.

Yea they do. Beardens was better, they had pizza, and grilled burgers and hot dogs outside....and the guy with the frozen ice was there which was the best part IMO lol.

CAK just has a little concession with mostly candy and snacks like that.

I usually stop at one of the fast food joints right by the entrance and bring it into the game with me.

HATED playing against the old guys, but now I am one! A lot of hard lessons for the young guys back in the day...but it sure was a lot of fun.

Westbrooks is a black hole offensively. 11 mins into the first half before I see him pass the ball.

I can't stand watching him play.

It's groce.

Other Random Tidbits and Very Cursory Observations

**Non box score-aided, from an inevitably insignificant, one game sample. All in good fun.**

Game 1

I've Always enjoyed Maze's game and still do. Several superb passes. He had more behind-the-back passes than Westbrooks had conventional. Those two going back and forth late in the first game was entertaining.

Hubbs looks smooth & athletic. Also appears comfortable passing the ball. Stroke from 3 looked good on his makes.

With a naturally long and lean build, A.J. Davis will need to bulk up and work on being constantly a PF--if that's the plan--instead of being intermittently a SF (If that makes sense to anyone but me). Not sure I'm sold on the viability of that plan, though.

Cool watching fellow Knox Central alum Ben Williamson hit a couple 3's.

D'Montre Edwards showed what appeared to maybe resemble a turn & face game in addition to some nice ups.

Game 2

Jordy, Jordy. Whew. He flashed a one-footed, Nowitski-esque fade away that damn near gave me goose bumps. Excited to watch him this year.

"Jon Higgins, for three" sounds so right. Still.

Greg Hernandez (who?) looks and plays just like a 'Greg Hernandez' ought to. Your boy grows arm hair in places where I didn't know human men grew arm hair.

I know he's a walk-on, and yes he would beat me in a game of one-on-one, but It's no wonder Galen Campbell gets no burn. Even on teams lacking a true PG. More G-rough than G-smoove. Ugh. Terrible joke there. Sorry.

Another reserve UT PG Brandon Lopez, had a shot attempt absolutely volleyballed sometime late in the second half. By a white guy. Ouch.

A favorite former Vol, Wayne Chism, was fun to watch. He looks good slim and trim. And of course, he was his usual long-ball loosing, debonair & flamboyant self.

Jamoris Gaines' 3-ball has some
nice rotation. He made the Almost-Top-Ten when he nearly yammed all over Pops late in the game.

Westbrooks is easily becoming the most hated RTL player in RTL history. I try not to get too frustrated because he's a kid and playing for free for our entertainment, but D@mn is he annoying as hell.

Chism abused and made fun of Pops all game. I've never seen that many ft in a RTL game ever. I got tired of hearing the commentator say ...............good. He's second in line with Westbrooks. Chism needs to try out for the Globe Trotters. He's just hilarious out there, very entertaining.

All the freshman looked great tonight. Davis really looked good. Hubbs would look a lot better if he had a pg besides Westbrooks on his team. Still looked better each game.

It's pretty apparent everyone in the gym wants Westbrooks to pass the ball. Except for Westbrooks.

Hernandez was an All-American at Maryville college and played pro ball overseas for a couple of years. Good guy.

Literally the same with us. Most of the other guys were 6ft plus (two were 6'6 and 6'5) and I was the fastest guy on our team so I always had to guard the little guy. I would post him up and if I hit one or two in a row he'd start calling walks, hold onto shirts, anything to stop it. And he was an ass, I remember once we checked the ball after a foul and he hit me in the foot with the ball where I couldn't catch it so it would bounce straight back to him, and we argued for five minutes over him saying "You should've caught it."

I did it to him later in the game and he threw the ball at me out of frustration and I said "That one does count" and took it for two points. Nobody argued that one.
