Plavsic denied by NCAA

Why aren't these decisions explained by the NCAA? Its astonishing how they can make such important rulings without giving a reason to at least the university...I personally believe it should be public...The only explanation would be that because the decisions lack consistency across the board, they're making them in the shadows to avoid scrutiny....Smh

I don’t think some kids want their personal business broadcast especially when it’s sometimes embarrassing to them why they transfer

I think the point was that the NCAA doesn't even provide the schools and athletes with reasons for the denial. Barnes alluded to that in some of his comments after Plavsic's original ruling.

Honestly when the ncaa denies a waiver they really are giving feedback to the school and player. The ncaa is simply saying that the player didn’t Prove they had mitigating circumstances beyond their control that affected their well Being at the previous school.

Sure, but that is equivalent to the parental reasoning of, "Because I said so."

The NCAA should be obligated to inform the SA and the school of why they disagreed with the SA's assessment that he/she should be immediately eligible and the reason(s) associated with that decision.

Not sure how they can say they don’t buy that a kids well being is being hampered other than with a no

1 game
7 minutes
8 pts
That’s crazy solid for the sample size. Wish he didn’t get homesick
Walker had a couple of games like that for UT and then would disappear. I think Walker and Burns had more upside than what we have now, but oh well.

So your saying a kid would rather not know why he was denied by the NCAA if given a choice his info gets out? The school and coach he is transferring to already know the reasons the kid is tranferring... In fact, each athletic department has an entire branch called compliance that deals with issues like that.....I dont understand what your saying...

He also fouled out in those 7 minutes.

But if you look at his game from last night against #18 Saint Mary's (Winthrop won). He did have a decent showing 17min, 12 pts (6-10), only 1 rebound, 1 block and 3 turnovers though.

I’m saying in some cases things like depression and personal issues are used to prove mitigating circumstances beyond the students control caused their well being to be at risk. In such cases the public doesn’t need to be told details

Also the more I think about it I don’t see how a “reason why” can be stated a player is denied other that the ncaa saying the player didn’t prove there was a mitigating circumstance beyond the players control.

Yeah...I missed the foul out in that games box score. Haha
6-10 is good but only pulling one board in 17 minutes is a little surprising.

But the way the NCAA interprets the bylaws are completely up to their discretion, which is unfair.

IMO, I don't see how this method of zero transparency/accountability benefits the athlete, the university, or the NCAA sport for countless reasons....The only entity it seems to benefit is the NCAA governing body by protecting it's credibility from scrutiny.

If we knew the specifics of each case we’d know if you are correct or not.
We don’t know and that’s why post it’s hard to agree or disagree

Imo if both schools agree to the mitigating circumstances then the ncaa always grants the waiver and when they don’t its very suspect

For his 2nd game ever in college. Yep, that’s pretty damn good, especially considering the opponent.
Still pissed over this one.

1 rebound in 17 minutes?? I mean 6-10 is nice, but he’d have to rebound better than that for this iteration of UT’s team. I’m fine with dude being gone. We don’t really need scoring. We need some dudes who scrap down low, hit the boards hard and play tough defense. I’d bet that Fulky and Pons fit this team better than Burns would.

Dude, it’s his 2nd college game ever.
Yes, we need post scoring. You just list Grant and Alexander. Good grief.

Agreed. We could use a consistent low-post scoring threat. Burns will learn and will be a good player at his level. We likely won’t know if he could perform in the SEC like that, consistently, but if he could, we lost a valuable piece.

counting the exhibition i believe he had 3 in 3 games with limited minutes.

here are DJ's full stats if anyone is interested

Burns was a big body and would've helped our front court out this year defensively because of his size....We're kidding ourselves if we believed he'd ever be more than an average to above average player in our league....He's 6-9, but doesn't have any lift, was out of shape, cant play above the rim, didn't have good feet.....his best chance at being an ok player would have been to allow Barnes and staff to develop his conditioning and offense....I've heard from a few on campus that he resented Barnes' honest coaching style....(your're too fat).....
