Player Reactions Thread

Come on now.. Nothing is ever as good or as bad as it seems.. The truth of the matter usually lies somewhere in the middle.. Did Dooley have a positive influence on some of these players lives, of course he did.. Did he do/say some things that left some with very bitter and negative feelings towards him, of course he did.. Did he do some good things for the progam, yes.. Did he hurt the program in some ways, yes I would say so..

Those who wish to somehow make a martyr out of him, don't. I'm pretty sure he would be the first to say he is no martyr.. Those who wish to bash and trash him, don't. He does not deserve that kind of treatment.. He took the job, did his best but just wasn't up to it..

I supported him for a long time but in the end I found I couldn't do it anymore. Also in the end I was critical of his coaching but that is over..

Bottom line is he could not win and now he is gone.. Can't we just let him leave in peace and look to the future knowing that it will be better.

This is the best Post I've seen on this situation. I agree.

Allan Posey: "A HUGE thank you to Coach Dooley for all he has done for me. For believing in me that I could play at UT. Wish him nothing but the best."

Hey, Nashvol, were you and your bride/girlfriend at the debacle against Vandy? I swear I saw the two of you in a crowd shot.

Kippy who should have been named interim and we wouldn't be the 5 alarm cluster blown up, blown out, joke of a program.
We had Hamilton, who gave the keys to one of the top 5 all time programs to a punk ass surfer boy, and vince dooley's idiot kid.

Never the less I am planning on attending the ut game against kensucky and cheering for the orange especially the seniors who deserve to be cheered on for their last run through the T for enduring all the crap they had to deal with.

Not really wanting to get involved in this argument, but cutcliffe turned it down. Fulmer really? Two of his last three seasons were losing records.

Before you start spouting off junk about CDD's inconsistency--you better have all the facts about each situation...18-22 yoa FB players ARE INCONSISTENT--and treated individually! How do you know his efforts to mentor Pope??? He sure spent a lot of time attempting to help Jansen Jackson--and JJ chose to screw it up--:salute::salute:

Was making fun of Pope being a vegan in the media mentoring? He could support a young man that aided in the rape of his cousin, yet felt the need to belittle Pope because he didn't believe in eating meat. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Personally, I'll take a hamburger over a salad any day of the week, but to each their own.

He didn't try to help JJ. He tried to keep JJ on the team because he didn't want to lose his best defensive player. As many passes as he gave JJ, that isn't "helping" someone. Helping is actually taking action that benefits the player's health.

Save your outrage for someone who cares. I respect Dooley and what he tried to do, but I'm not gonna hero worship the man out of some demented form of survivor's guilt because he lost his job. At the end of the day, he's just a man who failed to live up to his job expectations. Respect or not, if you cannot get your job done, the result is termination. That's not an attack on Dooley, it's a simple statement of fact.

Losing sucks...bottom line. While personal relationships are great and all, ask any player worth a damn who has ever suited up in orange...they want to get better and win ball games. They're not looking for a life long mentor and a "good man." Those of you who keep pointing out that Dooley did great things for the young men he coached...get real. He fostered a culture of losing, pushed buttons, publicly threw his players under the bus rather than accepting the blame like HBC's get PAID to do and he wasted what may be the most potent Tennessee offense we will ever witness. Dooley was there for Hood when he suffered a great tragedy in his life. Awesome...he did his job for a freaking change. Where was he when Devrin's grandma died?

Cp has said not publicly that he wouldnt even consider coming back if Dools was back..

Is there an English translation for this? Also, I'm calling bs. When has CP ever said anything other than the vols have given him a great opportunity and he is happy to be here? I've watched most of his interviews and his sentiment toward UT has been consistently positive.

I love Tennessee. I love Volunteer football.

I find these player responses to be very impressive and extremely mature for a group of 18-22 year old men going through a difficult experience.

I cannot understand how some posters can criticize a guy like Herman Lathers who has given everything he has to this program.

Regardless of how you felt about Crompton's performance at Tennessee, how can someone be critical of a former player who is out publicly supporting our Vols.

As for me, I'm proud of how these guys are handling the situation. Of course I'm not happy about our w/l record, but for crying out loud the players are giving so much to the program. Let's support them.

Looking forward to a brighter future! Let's hope Hart makes the best decisions of his career in the coming days.

The sad fact, West Coast Vol is that our fanbase has some people who presume to look down their nose at but it's actually their butt crack at players and others. These people are so stupid that even their own stupid is smarter than them.

Loving the players' tweets thread.

While it's certainly not D1 college football, coaching middle school soccer gives me some insight to what Dooley and many of his players are feeling.

Those players bled for Derek Dooley. Yes, some fight against their own demons, some for family, others for their NFL dream, and many for The Hill they love. But only the coach can make a player give more than he ever thought he had to give. Arguably, Dooley did a poor job of this, but many of the players don't realize that. All they see is that he got them to give more than they thought they could - they bled for Coach.

He is now dealing with the reality that he squandered their blood. For all of his players' best efforts, he couldn't get it done. I don't mean to make him a martyr, but dude, that feeling sucks. His players are feeling something quite similar from the other direction. They are saddled with the knowledge that all they had to give wasn't enough to keep their coach from losing his job. That's a load of guilt for some of them to handle.

Time to move forward, I totally get and support that. Let's just do so with the understanding that real people and real emotions are involved in the process, and all of those people are VFL.

Cody Pope‏@Volplayer77

And when people ask me what coach i liked best and least, and left confused, i hope you understand now...

Shane Reveiz‏@Rane_Sheveiz30

Now I'm def going Sat. for support for my bros. Glad to see a change. Go Vols

Pope is so negative you have to look past him. He always has something to say. I guess it's Dooleys fault he was out 12 weeks with a stinger.
