Please Holly...Resign Or Retire

She may as well be spitting on Pat's grave. Ruined everything Pat built.

Wow. Didn't expect that.

We all saw what happened last night. They really stunk it up for most of the game. I don't know what is going on nor do any of you for sure. A lot of speculation and forum coaching experts have ideas but one thing is for sure....this type of up and down play can't continue to happen for the sake of the fan base.

The program is greater than one person (or more) and I have to believe that someone in power knows what root cause of the poor play is and has plans to fix it. Whether it happens in season or after or whether it involves players or coaches or both, there will be a path forward. I just hope something draconian doesn't happen that permanently damages the program worse than it already is. The program cannot afford to lose those commitments as they will be key for future success.

...Why is she the coach this once top elite and some would say is where Women Basketball really started to what it has become today...

I see what you are saying and Tennessee certainly has done more than their share to put women's basketball on the radar but women's basketball had several great teams of the early years help shape it too like Immaculata, Old Dominion, and La. Tech.. While those programs are not relevant today, that does not mean that Tennessee has to follow the same path.

Basketball seems to go in cycles where a team rises then falls (sooner or later). It revolves about who is coaching and who is playing. UConn will also see its fortunes change some day as Tennessee has. That does not mean once down...always down. Probably some type of intervention will be required either overtly or covertly my management to fix what has gone wrong. If that means a coaching change then it will be done. If it means player adjustment or dismissal, then that will be done as well. It probably will not be done on the time table the average negavol is hoping for and the fan base will probably never find out what all the causes of poor play were. Hopefully their world will be right again or at least on the way to being right and the university can get back to generating the necessary revenue it takes to keep the athletic programs solvent.

I only want what is best for the women's basketball program and I hate it that they are not playing well enough to keep most of the fan base happy. Part of the fan discourse stems from the inability to reach the bar that was raised by Pat during all those incredibly winning years and some of it still has to be determined and fixed. It is my hope that all this discourse ends soon.

The incoming recruits signed their LOI's with the understanding that they would be playing for CHW. Are we going to lose any of them if a new coach were hired before their arrival?

If u get a high profile coach they recruit will stay.

That just goes to show how great of a coach Pat Summitt really was!!! We were very lucky to have her for as long as we did and I'll be the first to say that I took advantage of that. The Lady Vols program and Pat Summitt just became a matter of fact because all I knew growing up was Phillip Fulmer and Pat Summitt. I actually shed a tear when Phillip Fulmer got fired and I still to this day believe he was wrongly ousted.

Until we get another AD and one that is Pro fan then Holly will continue to be the coach. This discussion about a different coach has went on for two years now while she continues to lose to the bottom feeders of the SEC. I wish we could clean house but were stuck with her for the forseeable future.

unfortunately this is true. new ad would not dismiss chw his first year. he has the football program to get to a higher level as his 1st. job. woman's bb is down the list unless one of the major contributors make it an issue.

This group of girls don't really care about winning , when you can laugh during a press conference and you got beat by a team that lost to alabama and aurburn. IDk I am soooo ready for this group to leave . IDK. the players have to have some blame its not the holly all of sudden go from winning the Sec to being in the bottom . She was coaching the same way then the problem now is this group does not have the fire in the belly that they need to have

players play as they are taught to play. MSU is playing great ball, UCONN is playing the best ball on the planet, Tennessee, uh no!

I am almost A 100% holly is not saying to them play half speed. Those teams you refer too love to play as well , They are hungry to win . we think we can turn it on at any time they feel like it, NOW LETS PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE DIFFerence in how hard we play against notre dame and we expect to win , you can not pick and choose when to play hard and expect the basketball gods to reward you

I don't think you can make changes from the bottom up. For some reason the cart has gotten in front of the horse. We must get the top position in place, then AD then coaching changes. Who could you bring in worth a da-n knowing they had no boss?

They'll have (I think :-o) an AD in place before coach Warlick is fired. So, the timing is probably good here. Plus, keeping those recruits is important. But, IMO, not nearly as important as the best possible hire. Get the coach right and keep 1/2 of them and we'll be in good shape.

Or the problem is that Holly can't coach.

When the entire team is not playing like a team? That's on the coach, not the players. What do you think she gets paid to do? Pose with her hands on her hips?

Are you insane? If you made a move on Holly, he would be literally the last person I'd want to replace Holly. He's a troll and an awful human being.

Agree. There have been some very loud whispers that he cheats on the recruiting trail as well.

Those four recruits will not amount to anything playing for Holly unless they walk in as the four best players in college basketball on Day 1.

Better to risk losing these recruits than continuing to give Holly a lifeline to another season of 10+ losses and underachieving with exceptional talent.

Lets clear this up .Recruits who signed with UT and if they choose not to come to Tennessee if Holly were not the Coach next year ,they would have to sit out a year if they sign with a Division 1 program like UConn or anyone else. They could transfer to a Junior College or a lower Division team and play immediately .I suspect that all of those signed would end up at Tennessee if Holly was not available to Coach next year for any reason ....illness ,retirement, firing ,etc.

Iam sure Holy is trying to be a good coach, but anyone can see the girls are not being coached. They are playing their own style and that doesn't get it. Need to teach them to play as a team. Why is Russel playing outside when she should live under the net on both ends of the court, for example of poor coaching. Love the Lady Vols!!!

With the shipwreck that happening in front of our eyes is it possible that even Blackburn said: "thanks but no thanks"?

Butch: coaching for his job likely out after nxt season
Barnes: Players played balls out against Carolina but sense have been erratic
Warlick: Was handpicked and has sense taken a nose dive to new depths of frustration.

I think we get Blackburn, but these are real facts... I agree that I don't think I've ever seen a program that was once so premier and dominating, take a faster nosedive off the cliff than the LadyVols....
Its also weird how well Barnes had the kids playing opening the season up and everyone was talking about them after some of their early incredible performances, but now they've seem to have just slid backwards into where preseason analysts had them second to last in the SEC... how can you take UNC literally to the wire on the road and then get beat by 10 points by South Carolina at home??

I agree with you wholeheartedly! I can see that happening, too.

Here's hoping that it does happen!

GOLADYVOLS!:eek:k:

As I stated in a previous post, I believe that a totally new approach should be considered for the new head coach. Again, let's think out of the box, and don't hire anyone from the current ranks of college coaches. There is a dedicated young woman who has been a part of the basketball world all of her career. Collegiate player, Olympian, WNBA player and currently is an assistant coach in the NBA. BECKY HAMMON is a person dedicated to excellence with a known work ethic and the person that would demand the same from her staff and the players. The UT administration should roll the dice and go after a person of this caliber to lead the next generation of LV basketball players.

If Holly resigned or retired..........There are only 2 coaches that would only turn us down and that would be Gino and McGraw (simply they have built big time programs at UConn & ND) otherwise, There isn't a coach in America that wouldn't line up for this job

Pay Kim Mulkey and get her here! Holly resign NOW!

I think Mulkey is a great recruiter (but then again, she is in TX). However, she is not a very good coach. We don't need a great recruiter because our reputation is still enough to draw top talent. I believe the next great coach (is) will be Scott Rueck...He has done a lot with very little talent and understands how to coach, has exceptional knowledge of the game and commands respect from his team. He is new enough to OS that he may not feel a strong commitment .... and coming here will (may) be viewed as a major jump because of the talent, desire for talent to always play here and reputation of this wbb program.
