"Poet" invited to White House

You can mince the words all you'd like, butit won't change them and the context around them has nothing to do with poetry. Your last paragraph is just garbage. I don't have an agenda because I'm powerless to do anything about Obama. He's just another in a long line of sorry ass politicians. If yore saying Fox has a political agenda, you're jar a simpleton.

May have a thread winner here.

Figured it would not take you long to play the race card. Show me where in the Constitution it states slavery is ok. Leave the playing of the race card to LG.

Why is it so often the case that those who purport to base their point of view on a 250ish year old document seem to know the least about that document?

Or its history?

We have to give it up for the Obamas on this one.

They are nothing if not great patrons of the arts.

Oh and did someone bring up Palin??

Here you go:

gs got 403'd on the coup de grace.

It just hasn't been your month, man. I'm telling you, stormfront.org might be more your cup of tea.

Come on, BPV. I know that you know better than this. We didn't have to memorize and recite Ozymandias in order to take every line literally and autonomously.

to the extent that we no longer use words to mean what they say, there is no point in any argument. You're almost pretending that he couldn't have used different language or been crystal clear about meaning anything but burning our president. It makes no sense to me that he didn't enjoy the double entendre.

Do you think Mitt Romney's "hang Obama" remark actually meant that he wanted to string Obama to a tree? I do not.

What's your point? You can post a video of something that happened over a year ago, congrats.

NJ Police being outraged does not really affect me. Maybe, if Police Departments actually cracked down on police brutality (the officer should have been charged with aggravated assault and given the maximum penalty as opposed to being suspended without pay), then poets and rappers would stop expressing their displeasure with said police.

It's poetry. When is it not about metaphor and imagery, basically, not being direct in its usage? Sorry, your argument is pretty weak. If you are assuming that there's an implied physical burning of the president Bush, much less him enjoying the imagery, then you are really reaching and your anger is entirely misplaced to the point of absurdity. I'm going to even ignore your disregard of context because I can't believe you would write something so ridiculous, as well.

As I've said earlier, this is one of the dumber outrages I've heard in a while.

How do you know what was said. What if that kid said "I am going to shoot you" at the same time he was reaching to mess with his pants? And so it's ok for someone to talk about killing a police officer because of a case of police brutality that had nothing to do with him?

It is perfectly within one's rights to talk about anything one wishes to talk about.

Maybe the kid whispered, "Allahu Akbar"? Maybe the kid said, "I have a nuclear bomb in my pants"? Maybe that justifies the first punch. The rest of the beating is still completely unjustified.

You are right, and it is my right to call this guy and his wife out for inviting someone who advocates violence against those who protect us every day.

He's a poet. Its his job to write thought-provoking stuff, even if we don't like the thought.

I am not going to bother, but imagine that if we were to scroll through decades of writings, musings, or lyrics by artists brought to the WH by any of the Bush clan we'd find something to complain about.

Another fake controversy, designed yet again to mobilize the racially suspicious far right and feed their perception that Obama is an initiation ceremony away from being a full fledged Black Panther.

Lame effort #326 in that regard.

Get over yourself. The context hurts your point.

As to my anger, don't be a retard. I simply said it's absurd to act if people bothered by his invite don't have a legitimate beef, and it is.

Out of curiosity, let me ask you this. Let's assume that the Obamas really like his message that police tend to treat blacks unfairly and to in some cases beat or shoot them without justification. Let's assume that the Obamas believe that to be the case.

Why can't they invite him to the WH?

They can. Many more people have that same beef and Many of those don't just talk about killing people.

There is no written rule, but my guess is that the Bush family doesn't view this similarly to those here mincing the words to pretend that they have some other meaning.

Why am I reminded of:

Dark and lonely on a summer's night.
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
Watchdog barking. Do he bite?
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
Slip in his window. Break his neck.
Then his house I start to wreck.
Got no reason. What the heck?
Kill my landlord. Kill my landlord.
C-I-L-L my land lord.

They can and should. The problem is that even if they feel this they will never admit it because they fear it may not be politically advantageous.

I believe the Obama buys at least some of the stuff Rev Wright was selling but instead of owning up to it he tossed the Rev under the bus and chastised anyone for suggesting he (Obama) might agree with the Rev.

That's the real shame of the issue. Be true to your beliefs and don't jump all over someone for calling you on your beliefs. Man up.

Didn't the Bush Administration host a reading of Langston Hughes poetry?

Dreaming that the Negroes
Of the South have taken over--
Voted all the Dixiecrats
Right out of power--

Comes the COLORED HOUR:
Martin Luther King is Governor of Georgia,
Dr. Rufus Clement his Chief Adviser,
A. Philip Randolph the High Grand Worthy.
In white pillared mansions
Sitting on their wide verandas,
Wealthy Negroes have white servants,
White sharecroppers work the black plantations,
And colored children have white mammies:
Mammy Faubus
Mammy Eastland
Mammy Wallace
Dear, dear darling old white mammies--
Sometimes even buried with our family.
Dear old
Mammy Faubus!

Why do you believe that? I assume you mean at least some of the controversial stuff. Maybe he never agreed with that part, but he did agree with a large amount of other stuff he said about Christ, fellowship, etc. Just because he was a long time member of the church, doesn't mean he absolutely agreed with everything that was said every sermon. I don't know what Rev wright said, but for all we know, 90% of everything else he preached was run of the mill sermons you could conceivably hear at any church.

Just wondering how you are coming to the conclusion that he at least partially agreed with the controversial stuff.

God spoke to Moses through a burning bush. Obviously wanted dubya dead.

Let's get him out of the white house too while we're at it.
