If you want to see the guy who should get the GOP nomination in 2012, watch Bobby Jindhal give the Republican response in a few minutes.

unless you drop the qualifications for a HS diploma significantly, there is no way every person can get through it. A HS diploma would have the worth of one Zimbabwe dollar

This is what I am concerned about.

It smells of the "leave every child behind" policy of the former administration.

Education standards in public schools have severly decreased even in the 9 years I've been out of school. What we need to see is an increase in standards along with an increase in the educational assistance available for those that find it more difficult to get through. Perhaps some sort of equivalency diploma or something. But I, coming from a family of Academics (my mother has a doctorate in education) feel that school is very very important and a high school diploma or equivalent should be a requirement for ANY job, I don't care if its the guy holding the stop sign at a construction site.

Goodness we waste enough money on education, something we really have no business in to begin with. A diploma to hold a sign, man that is some silly thinking you have.

It's going to be interesting to see if and how early he gets a shot. Since he's not even 40 yet, I'd almost bet that he sits out 2012 unless Obama's numbers go into the toilet.

u didnt say that man. i wasnt implying that u did say that, i was just wanting u to understand where im coming from. i do understand where u come. u worked hard to put yourself through school and get a fine paying job. but i will be the first person in my family to graduate from college in two years and hope to one day be in your position. u work for your money and dont think u should have to help others i understand that and respect it. but coming from were im at i amwilling tohelp hard working middle and lower income families.

I disagree. The reason I say that, is that I feel it would motivate more people to get out there and find quality jobs, to further their education so they can get quality jobs. Yes, I know the world needs those signholders too, but we don't need the lazy kid doing nothing because he doesn't feel like it.

Didn't Pelosi get a jet out of the whole deal??

I found that funny too when Obama was criticizing private jets and she applauded. As I understand it, she always had a small private jet but demanded a bigger one to fly from D.C. to California every weekend.

Yeah, that along with the whole "walk into the living room and start speaking" thing was goofy as hell.

...but that message of self reliance resonates.

We don't need those lazy kids sitting in classrooms distracting students that are interested in learning and turning teachers into babysitters. I think we should encourage the lazy to dropout. They need to get moving on their path.

if everyone has a HS diploma then it is essentially worthless. It is no longer an achievement and is an entitlement. It would basically become a check-box on an application.

And what's wrong with the lazy kid who doesn't want to do anything? As long as my tax dollars aren't being used to support them then he can do whatever he wants.

I agree on what he just said, I also oppose gov't run healthcare. That is the one thing that scares the living crap out of me in this administration. It's the same reason I would never vote for Hilary, and it's the reason it bothers me that she is in the cabinet.
