Politics aside, tonight's speech

I liked what Jindhal said . . . but it was like he drank too much coffee or something.

This was the biggest stage of his life I would guess....he'll get better. I really think he settled in and nailed the end.
Fox News is absolutely killing Jindhal. There was something weird going on with their audio that made him sound a little worse. It sounded so bad that I turned the channel.

i had to do the same. I think the majority of Americans would disagree, but I don't need a fancy speaker, I want someone who knows what to do and tells me how he would do it. Jindhal did just that. Obama just gave me another speech as if he's not been elected yet.

I also think that with time, Jindhal can shake those nerves. I would have placed two or three other Republicans behind him to jump up and cheer with every good point he made.

The ABC feed was cutting in and out...is that what Fox was doing to? There must have been only one uplink. He was really rough at the start...and unfortunately that is where you have to grab people most often. I still think that he finished well.

That's exactly what it sounded like. I switched over to regular Fox and it sounded a ton better. Of course, that's also about the time he settled in and stopped sounding like a bad news anchor.

Jindhal finished strong, but he was goofy as hell to begin with. Do the repubs have any good communicators or speech writers?

As far as Obama's speech, the healthcare stuff and defense cuts still really scare me. I like what he said about "the service for education" deal and energy initiatives.

I don't know what you were listening to, but I heard a whole lot of nothing from him.

his ideas of self reliance (as GA penned) were what took me. I heard nothing but "I'm still trying to get elected" from your boy.

Also I just laughed at the thought of everyone needing college degrees. I've got two degrees and until his stimulus package starts creating jobs, they are worthless.

I disagree with your interpretation of what Obama was saying here. I heard that he was pushing some sort of education beyond high school (and not accepting anything less than a high school degree for our children - and as I said earlier...I think he means or equivalent here, but I could be wrong). I think that this post-secondary education could include trade school, vocational school, an associate's, bachelor's, master's, etc. I personally agree that a more trained/educated workforce is a positive force in an economy.

Yet Obama resonated???? Nice.

Admittedly, I listened to the the republican response much like I'm sure many of you listened to the presidential address.

That's why all I heard was "tax cuts" "defense spending" and "smaller government"

possibly. But like PJ pointed out, everyone having a HS degree will make that degree worthless. Everyone having an associate's degree or certificate in trade/vocational school lessens that significantly. I mean this with the utmost seriousness, who is going to pick up my garbage, who is going to flip hamburgers and who is going to sell me a TV at Best Buy if everyone has big degrees?

I watched on NBC and the sound was fine (compared to Fox).

BO gives a good speech. How on earth we are going to pay for all the "wonderful things" he wants to do is a complete mystery. Grade A on the delivery and C+ on the content.

Jindhal was hard to follow at times. I wasn't impressed overall but he had a some good points. Grade C+ on delivery and B on content.

i listened completely to Obama. His plans are going through now and for the next four years (well at least the next two) so what he goes after is probably going to happen. I have to make sure I know his plans so I can prepare accordingly. Plus I noticed that while he mentioned the person with mortage problems, the person with healthcare issues, the person who just lost their job, the person who can't afford to get an education, he left me out. Where do I stand? I'm stuck with two crappy paying jobs, a Master's Degree and $300 a month in student loan bills I can barely afford. How am I going to get help?

College isn't and never will be for everyone. Even if everyone could afford it, there are just a lot of people out there that can't handle it.

I think that everyone having a HS degree only makes it worthless from the standpoint of it being a metric by which to assess one's employment potential. There are, of course, jobs that require little to no training - but I think that enhancing the skills (not necessarily "academic" education, but that is included) of a workforce allows for the human capital to expand the economy.
