That means you have no say either; which also means UT might agree with him, not you.

You said it like it's good he doesn't get a say, meaning they're going to give us "new, cool uniforms", yet the upcoming changes are subtle.

I know what it means and no, I don't think we're going to have "cool, new uniforms" I know the changes, if any, will be subtle.

One problem we have with our orange color is what color orange is it? When I watch a game, I see 5 different shades of orange on the fans, light shades and darker shades and everything in between. Florida, Auburn, Okis State and Texas all seem to know what their orange colors are supposed to be. Don't know what the answer is to that prob but let's keep an open mind. I would imagine that if the Al Gore had invented the internet years earlier, and mind numbing message boards had existed then, folks would have been wasting their time arguing about unis when the decision was made to put the players names on the back of the jerseys.

To be fair, their color of orange is darker and therefore is probably easier to make merchandise. Our shade of orange is pretty unique, which is why you see so many shades of it.

I do wish it were better though; some of the stuff people buy I just have to assume they really don't care or they are color blind, because the shade of orange is so off.

You mean like the 7,500+ gems that you've graced us with? You're not dragging me down don't flatter yourself, I just happen to think your a sniveling little fool who's afraid of even the slightest of change.

I've already said that if the uniforms are the same as the pictures we've seen so far, then the home uniforms are changed so subtly that you can barely tell a difference and that the away ones are a wash with one positive change (elimination of the black accents) and one negative one (having the team name on the front of the jersey).

I'm somewhere between 4 and 5. Some tweaks, like the possibility of removing the black accents in the away unis that would be an improvement. Others, like adding the school name to the aways is a downgrade and IMO makes us look like a mid major or high school team. All told, if what we've seen so far for this year is correct, then it'll be a wash of a step forward and a step back. For me, no colors other than orange and white should ever be a part of our uniforms.

If this is so,
1) the band needs to get rid of their black uniforms. And that would look dumb as hell.
2) the lady vols need to lose the carolina blue in their uniforms basketball, softball, all women's teams.
3) the baseball team needs to lost the black in their uniforms
4) the university fan shops needs to stop licensing UT all merchandise with black in it: jackets, shirts, and hats. You know, like the ones Dillon Bates and Jalen Reeves-Maybin pulled out when they committed.

It is an accent color. It makes the numbers and letters more visible. The real reason orange and white was used was to confuse other teams on players numbers during the days of black and white television. Tradition had nothing to do with that.

First I'll apologize for being an ******* there is no point in my being that way to other Vol fans. Second, I will have to respectfully disagree as I think that Tennessee's all white unis WITH the black trim is one of the best looking in all of football. I'm not saying go all radical and go Oregon but one alternate uni would not be a bad thing.

I actually wish they would do this. Orange and white UT gear is getting increasingly hard to find.

As for the Lady Vols, I'm actually a little surprised they haven't ditched the blue yet. For years and years they were a seperate athletic department with an entirely different logo from the mens sports teams. Since the Lady Vols AD and logo has since been done away with when the two departments merged, I'm surprised we still see the blue.

We're cool. It's just a message board. If I was actually taking things personally and getting my feelings hurt about stuff on here, I'd probably need to reevaluate things. :)

And I do understand your passion for the uniforms, as a lifelong Niners fan I remember when they were going to change the helmet logo one time, back in 1990 or '91 I think it was, and I can tell you that really pissed me off

What about a little Ralph Lauren or Dolce and Gabana redesign? (Just kidding) but seriously, my guess is that "winning cures all ills". If we start winning we wont care about the unis nearly as much. But cant we at least put some panache in the unis. Didn't some teams put 3 swoosie stripes on their pants, maybe just jazz it up a little.

I mean, what 49ers fan wouldn't be disappointed when they saw this?

I hate seeing the UT shirts that almost have floridas or syracuses orange on them...drives me crazy

The train has left the station and we are being left behind, Bama winning with ugly traditional unis or not.

Aside from the difficulty associated with replicating Tennessee orange consistently and with precision, I believe that much of the problem has to do with the liberal interpretation of our color by apparel manufacturers. As far back as the 1970s and '80s, I was surprised by the fact that it was easier to find fan apparel that closely matched Tennessee orange at stores in Nashville than Knoxville. In those days, much of the apparel sold even at the UT Book Store was a much darker shade of orange than our football team actually wears.

Even Nebraska in Adidas unis

This one was brought out first as a throw back by Mich. Which I thought was a sweet move at the time. But we're Tennessee we don't need no stinkin gimmicks. Just sayin...

We ain't the Tenn. of Gen. Neyland's day. We need all the gimmicks that we can come up with. If we didn't need "enhancements" we wouldn't need the $50 mil football complex or planned new athletic dorm. Until we have a steady stream of 4 and 5 star recruits committing each year we need every edge we can get. Why do you think Butch is "doing everything right"? Foundation Day, meeting and smoozing the parents, cookouts, tweeting nite and day, etc. If we really want to win, we must leave no stone unturned, it's all in and nothing's sacred or you can whine "please don't change my litttle orange and white unis" or everthing's on the table. This is big business and when a change is made, the new CEO is allowed to made whatever changes need to be made to right the ship.

So you can only win with old fashioned unis. Seems like the coaching and RECRUITING have more to do with it. We have to recruit nationwide but coach Nicky only needs Lower Alabama to field a team (exaggeration yes). But God forbid what if Tenn got a reputation as COOL! We have a damned fight song about moonshiners. Think 17 year olds who listen to rap can relate. Give me a break. We will never win like Bama but at least we can get our tradition soaked heads out of our orange butts and try something different or are you too scared?

See Clay Travis thread for reference. Maybe he spoke the truth about the fanbase!

bammer has trailer trash who yell something stupid about yeller hammers and they've been winning once in a while lately... what do you want? invite Flo-Rida to write us a new fight song?

and you can take a flying leap if you think we can't win like bammer... we've done it in the past and can do it again... and I enjoy having an orange butt, orange ears, orange heart and orange blood!

Quit apologizing for being Orange and Tennessee!
