Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

I don’t think any promises were made. He will play wherever he earns it but will have every opportunity to earn a spot.
Assuming one of the reasons he left Clemson was having to play all over the diamond. And since he said playing third was a priority to him in the portal, we probably had to make a few promises to land him.

From what I’ve heard Tony doesn’t really make promises. Now he can definitely hint “hey if you come here and work hard there’s a great chance you can start”

I hear your concerns and don't necessarily disagree, however, this is the new age of college baseball set forth under the new rules. Until something changes, it's part of the landscape of all college sports. I'm just glad we have a staff who's out front of this mess and simply doing what every other school is doing, except at a much more advanced pace
Like I mentioned before, I don't blame Tony for playing the game. I hate the game itself. That is what I dont support. This Willy nilly free agency stuff wasn't anywhere close to the intention behind the rule for the NIL or the portal, but too many people were to naive to understand the pandoras box they were opening.

With all the lumber that we're stacking, opposing pitchers are going to have a hard time missing the bats. All they'll be throwing is home runs.

Must have been a Homer, Simpson, cause the pitch just went d'oh!

Don’t we have a starter returning? 😉
Where’s the Jas Love? 🧡
Haha I’ll frankly be shocked if Jaslove starts. At least the Jaslove of last season. In baseball it’s always possible a guy takes a big leap in an offseason.

He’s got a good glove but was nowhere near an sec level hitter. He’s good depth and it’s possible they opt for offense there and go to a guy like Jaslove late in games. As I have said many times this team is going to have WAY more options for Tony to play with. They were so limited position wise this year in what they could do. They could put Chuck in for stark, and they could pinch run Payne for Burke and that was about it. All of their pinch hit bats were lefties too.

In terms of SS, you have Kendro and Jaslove returning. Then you have 4 stud “SS” freshmen coming in, although I don’t think they really ultimately project any of them to be long term SS at the SEC or pro level, but maybe you go with one next year for offensive purposes?

I believe they would love to take one in the portal, but that requires there being one available they find worth taking.

The most up in the air position on the team by far, but again with the amount of talent on the roster, at the very least you’re probably filling it with someone who is a plus bat and maybe slightly below average defense. Ahuna got a ton of hate, but the guy was a wizard and they probably aren’t getting anyone in there who can field and throw like him. The key is have stud pitchers and a stacked lineup and you’ve got a guy like jaslove to throw in as a defensive replacement if you need it

It's not just that. I'm assuming Holoman and one or two other pitchers. Over half the guys who are going to be the main players on this team are portal guys just chasing a check. It's not right.

And you know this how?

Skenes and Tommy Tanks “chasing the check” at LSU certainly worked out poorly for the Tigers
