Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

Gotcha. Understand.
I like the mobility it provides if a player coming out of HS makes the wrong decision.

I speak from experience. I transferred after my freshman year from a school that was not protecting me. Logged way too many innings and started having arm/elbow issues. Back to a school in my hometown. This was back in the day where the coach had to release you from your scholarship. Glad he did.
Its not the sport I fell in love with as a kid. I loved watching a highly touted Freshman come in and struggle then by their Jr year they blossomed into a draft pick. Nick Senzel wasn't great as a Freshman but he stayed, worked hard and parlayed that into being the #3 pick in the draft. Rooting for guys like Kirby and Sewell is easy because you get to know them and their personalities because they've been here. There transfers, I couldn't care less about them, here today gone tomorrow.

Then don’t watch! It’s that simple

I really don’t get the NIL excuse when you miss on a kid lol… that’s literally allowed now. Hell yeah tennessee is paying. But also FWIW so many of those NIL excuses are way overblown. I do not know what specifically Amick got in that regard but I know plenty of players who were rumored to go to TN specifically for NIL money we’re in fact not even receiving that much money. Tony Frank and Elandwr are incredible recruiters who have a proven track record and know how to sell their program. And frankly Tony works harder at it than any other HC does

Ok let's play your game. Ammick gets drafted and told to play second base, is he just going to take his ball and go home? Cannon is told he's a DH, he gonn quit. Burns going to run when he's told he's a closer at the next level.
It's just another sense of entitlement from this generation. ( Which I am a part of.)

I would not consider it a sense of “entitlement”. These athletes are doing what they feel is best for their future. It is not entitlement for Cannon Peebles to see that his path to playing catcher at NC State is blocked. He wants to play. Same goes for Amick. Clemson just wants to DH him and he wants to play the field. The MLB does not value players that have no position. Unless you are a graduating high school prospect that is young and can be molded, position-less college players have a much lower ceiling on their draft stock.

You don’t have to like it, but it’s reasonable for them to feel this way. And let’s be real, you’ll whine and complain till February 2024 but you’ll be back here watching this team just like the rest of us. So your holier than thou shtick isn’t believable.

Rival fan bases say this so much that its like they’re hoping against hope that is what happens.
1) from the sounds of it, I’m not sure Tony will ever leave now that the stadium deal is done. He’s in the heart of baseball talent in the US, is one of the 5 highest paid coaches, is about to have one of the nicest facilities, and has an AD and fan base who are now fully committted to baseball. He loves knoxville.
BUT
2) even if he were to leave at some point he’s made TN baseball such a national brand and gotten the investment in the program to the point that they’d go out and hire a big time coach. Vol baseball isn’t going away

Nah, I am actually leaving this time. Just finishing up this conversation the walling away tonight.

So, that NC State catcher going to be there forever, last I checked you only get 4 years. If Ammick is that bad of a defender then maybe he should work on his craft instead of running away.
And nah I'm working on finding new hobbies, I can't gel with this ****.

Then stop watching college baseball man. Not sure what to tell you. The constant whining and whining about the same thing over and over when tennessee is getting tons of good news is getting old for everyone

I think that's a fair statement. I'm just not sure it's for the better.

It’s not

Don’t learn their names and just cheer for the uniform

Kentucky hoops has done it for years and the rest of us going to have to do it now as well.

I love the orange too much to just drop college fandom for me

Good luck with your new hobbies. Hope you enjoy them. Glad this board will be a little less negative moving forward.

I certainly don't think it's for the better. The combination of NIL and portal have completely changed college sports and I can think of no way to put the genie back in the bottle. Enjoy it for what it is.
I agree, it almost certainly isn't for the better. But that ship has sailed so I intend to just enjoy what Tony V has built here.

Coach Vitello and staff have assembled a fantastic transfer class (so far) from the portal this offseason. I look forward to seeing how they all fit together along with our returning players, incoming freshman and JUCOs (post MLB Draft). This past season has taught me a valuable lesson in patience and grace- especially to have more of it. Team chemistry and leadership will also be factors, and I'm prepared for there to be bumps along the way. However, the talent and potential are very exciting. I'm ready for next year's journey!

The flash in the pan thing is wrong, and I don't think Tony leaves, but for a lot of people baseball started like 3 years ago and they'll check out as soon as Tomy retires.

“Not knowing there was a baseball program” wasn’t the issue. Having a crappy product on the field and a not having a good coach was.

I don’t get this whole “I can’t support this” in re: transfers on the team. So were you not supporting the football team led by transfer QB, Hendon Hooker, last season? I’m assuming you won’t be supporting Joe Milton this season then? I’m guessing you didn’t like all those clutch/game winning hits provided by Zane Denton and Griffin Merritt either?
