Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

I feel pretty sure this type of situation happens to most every high-caliber team. Lots of movement to and from for these programs. Kevin O’Sullivan lamented on SEC Network his many “dugout problems” with his players. It’s not unique to Tennessee, but when a highly visible player is involved, focus intensifies on that player/team.
How big is roster size on college baseball teams is there not a limit,In MLB it was 25 but I think it went up this year and In September I believe they can go to ,40

The rule for Division 1 schools before COVID was 27 players on scholarship. You could have 8 walk ons for a total of 35. Coaches were asked to spread 11.7 in scholarship money between the 27 scholarship players. Each scholarship player must receive at least .25% of a full scholarship.

In March of this year the NCAA approved a one year waiver for 23/24 academic year to allow 32 on scholarship and a total of 8 walk ons. Scholarship money did not increase.

You can have a total of 40 on the active roster. However, some kids that are hurt and won't be able to play or those that are going to RS or sit out for other reasons won't count against the 40 total.

So if I understand it right, you can have a few above the 40 on the team, just not all on the active roster.

MLB roster went to 26 a couple of years ago. 27 on days a team has a doubleheader. The also changed the September roster. Went from 40 to 28. 29 on days a team has a doubleheader.

No offense to Jaslove but he was/is never going to play here.

I realize he doesn't hit, but we need a sterling defensive shortstop to play defense in late innings when we have the lead. If that isn't going to be Jazzy, who will it be? Any baseball team that wants to be a champion MUST have strong defense up the middle.

Not playing is a reason for becoming disenchanted. And the days of paying your dues (Tre Lipscomb) are over. These kids want to play and if they can’t do it here, they’ll go somewhere else.

Again, 5 catchers? That’s why Miller left. Wonder what Cal will do. 19 pitchers or so but only 7 pitch regularly. That leaves 12 competitors getting 10-15 innings per season and that’s just not going to do it. That’s why they hit the portal.

So I’ll bet Jaz hits it, wouldn’t be surprised if Tears hits it, and still wondering what Cal will do.

I posted the same a couple of pages back. Seems the consensus is that Kendro is an option along with a juco guy we brought in.
Alex Perry is the JUCO. Pearl River CC, I believe.

Gosh, we had that already. Biggest issue was the catcher position. Good defense, poor batting %
You can't continue to give up bats, 2 or 3 in the lineup and expect to win championships.
8-9-1 killed them most of the season

Tears will be starting somewhere next year. Bat too good not to

At the end of the day I will sit back and let CTV do his job to complete his roster. He knows what it takes to get to Omaha with the ultimate goal of winning the college World Series.

It’s only July but I am already excited for the upcoming ⚾️ season though we still have 🏈 and 🏀.

Go Vols!

So just like any other team in America, you've got to earn your playing time. Oh, the horrors.

End of the day, the best players play. It doesn't matter what school you go to, if you're not the best player, you're not playing. Acting like that's somehow "unfair" is idiotic. And I'm okay with players transferring, they just need to make sure they're going somewhere where they are the better player, otherwise, they're still not going to play. And when they do transfer, keep in mind, they're replacing someone there, just like they got replaced here.

Do you think Miller is going to catch at his next stop? He has been playing OF in summer ball some. I also noticed his average this summer is not great. Last I looked he was below .200.
