Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

Their offense will be subpar. Smith, Tygart and Molina will carry this team until they start having to use the bullpen. The 7th, 8th and 9 innings of nearly every single game will probably dictate their season.

Will McEntire returns who is essentially a starter but probably a bullpen arm now. Koty Frank got hurt last year but was one of the top bullpen options when healthy. But the rest will likely depend on how well those incoming freshmen pan out like they're expected to, of course could always add another reliever in the portal if there are any left.

Offense replaces a lot but still has Kendall Diggs (.299, 12 HR), Hudson White (.296, 11 HR at Texas Tech), Ty Wilmsmeyer (.311 at Missouri), Ross Lovich (.306 at Missouri), Peyton Holt (.392), Ben McLaughlin (.346), Wehiwa Aloy (.376 at Sac. State, WAC freshman of the year) and Peyton Stovall (hurt most of last year, .295 and 6 HR as a freshman). Probably need to add one more bat through the portal but so far the transfer portal has filled most of the offensive needs on paper pretty well.

Mercy… we are in a thread with the word RUMORS in the title for goodness sakes…

go ahead and ignore me. You ain’t the first or the last lol

'Rumors' in the thread title are for transfers, not for defamatory unsupported accusations of illicit player activities such as juicing. There's been a long standing policy on the baseball forum that we do not attack the players, especially in this cowardly way. I asked for source and you provided none. You are on ignore by me.

Edit: From the the thread Rules for Newcomers, etc on this Forum: "*Read Rule #1, you will be banned from the Game Thread if you bash a player, NO EXCEPTIONS"

You had some good info on the Billy Amick recruitment @Stoerner Fumbles. Have you heard anything on Luke Holman?

I don’t know anything that hasn’t been said by others. The perception among our staff Monday was that he will be a Vol. His dad said he couldn’t imagine him signing elsewhere. I think everyone is sweating LSU just because they seem to close so well. As of Monday, they said they’d announce this week. Not much of this week left. Hopefully we’ll hear today or tomorrow.

Thanks, SF. Good stuff.

Still feel good about Holman 🤷‍♂️ same person who told me when Amick told vols he’s in.

I don’t think the Holman’s have made their final decision, but I believe the vols feel like they’ll know by the end of the weekend and at this point will be surprised if he’s not coming

If he doesn’t come, I think its LSU

Tony Frank and Drew Beam did a fantastic job recruiting this kid and his dad who is playing a big role in his decision too. If he didn’t take any visits he would’ve been a vol for sure. He was in Knoxville longer than any other city, and Tony V visits are legendary.

Never say never, but I will be very surprised if he’s not a vol by Monday. Could hear as early as tomorrow

AJ Russell has zero SEC starting experience. It would make no sense to relegate Holman to Sunday. He’s your Friday guy. Beam probably goes to Saturday. Russell Sunday.
Holman maybe ahead of Russell but not Beam. Hell Beam was the Ace of staff this past season and he should be the Friday night starter over Holman,Beam deserves it!!!!

Just looked it up Stanford averaged a shameful 1600 for their home games last year and that was near the top of the pac 12

yea it’s clear MSU is a better baseball package

I went to high school 40 miles from Starkville, I also lived in the bay area in the 80's. I visited Starkville countless times. Had numerous classmates whom I visited while they attended MSU. Drank many a 3.0 beer at the Straight 8 Lounge in Starkville, and the Southernaire Club In Columbus. I attended several Stanford baseball games when I lived in Santa Clara. Back then attendance was good, of course that may have been due to John Elway being quite the baseball player.

Starkville is a crap hole, even by Mississippi standards. It makes Tuscaloosa seem like Utopia. The Bay area by contrast is one of the best places I have ever lived, and being an Air Force brat, I have lived in quite a few places.

MSU may be a better baseball package on game day, unfortunately every day isn't game day.

LSU boards claim Holman stayed in BR an extra day. Nothing from actual reporters on the boards, just the “insiders”. So no idea if it’s true but wouldn’t bode well for us if he did stay longer.
Last I heard he was going to auburn today. Sounded like Ben McKee had reported the same. Not sure if he actually made it to auburn or not, but that was indeed the plan.

If he stayed an extra day in BR, that’s not great

Apparently Holman might have gone to Auburn yesterday instead and LSU today. Someone on VQ said McKee mentioned it. Also, the fact that he has been in LSU but there have been zero updates by the On3 and 247 guys there on how the visit went is a bit odd considering their fans are convinced Holman is a lock.
