I would be for mixing in the slide step every 8-10 pitches to help control the running. It doesn’t change the arm slot and the majority of our guys are athletic enough to do this.
It’s much better than a pitch out to keep base runners honest.
Mix that with a good defensive catcher and the problem is minimized
I believe we have the capacity and desire to keep him. He also pitched like someone committed to UT. I think we are worked up about nothing honestly, sort of similar to when everyone was freaking out about LSU taking TVWe will find out soon enough about Chase Burns until then I’m not getting bent out of shape by some “Twitter insider”. Personally I believe we will pay the man and he’ll stay….Go Vols!
I view the “problem” as something that is more relevant on the road and especially post season. It is an easy “problem” to see BUT Is it really a problem?
A SB leads to ERs but we all
Know ERA isn’t a program: also I’d argue that in our ballpark the SB is damn near null and void. No need to risk even the slightest chance of a CS with a 2Run HR a pop up away from happening.
It’s why I am on the fence with this “problem”.
For the last time, of course we pitch from the stretch with runners on first or second base—this is an absolute, Indisputable fact. What we don’t do is do a slide step because CFA believes in a repeatable delivery and feels that a slide step puts more stress/strain on arm/shoulder.Frank refuses to pitch from the stretch.
I know a few posters will quote this saying we do pitch from the stretch, but it’s pathetic.
So shouldn't we see Burns in the portal by now?
The tweet says he has not closed the door on returning. Does this mean he is negotiating more NIL dollars??He is according to whatever BVM is. Chase Burns enters transfer portal; 5 possible landing spots
It is starting to sound like there's probably less than 1% chance he returns. It apparently isn't about money...we've made an extremely generous offer. It is allegedly about him simply being unhappy. Unhappy with Frank Anderson's coaching style, unhappy about his move to the bullpen. Money isn't likely to change that, and he's got a foot out the door. I wouldn't bank on him returning. The tweet says he has not closed the door on returning. Does this mean he is negotiating more NIL dollars??

The Basilio Show has Evan Russell on as their weekly guest during baseball season, and they’ve been saying today that it isn’t about money and that Burns was bothered by the midseason move to the bullpen and has been planning to leave for weeks. They said it was LSU that prompted him to decide to leave but that TCU and Vandy are the possible destinations at this point. I don’t know where they’re getting TCU and Vandy from - they could just be reading that on the web. But, they said they’ve known he was planning to leave for weeks but kept it quiet on air. Some people on VN will think Basilio is lying about knowing it for weeks, but Evan Russell didn’t challenge on air when Basilio said he passed the info on to Russell weeks ago. They’ve speculated that the energy exhibited by Burns coming off the mound at times has been him being fired up (and ticked by) the move to the bullpen.
You're absolutely correct. My contention is we're no longer seeing amateur sports, something I personally prefer to enjoy. No one has the right to tell anyone in this country that they can’t make money when someone is willing to pay them for their services or likeness. If you’re anti-capitalism because you don’t like the effect it has on sports, that’s your prerogative. But I didn’t address how good or bad it is…it’s simply the law. And it’s not statutory. It’s constitutional.
Alston was a 9-0 decision. The justice panel wasn’t divided among ideological lines or any other lines. It was an unanimous declaration by this nation’s ultimate adjudicator of the U.S. constitution. Anyone is free to read the decidion. The legal reasoning is not controversial. It’s cut and dry. Whether we like its effect on sports or not is irrelevant.
Battered Vol syndrome is not just limited to Football. When it metastasizes, all sports are impacted.I believe we have the capacity and desire to keep him. He also pitched like someone committed to UT. I think we are worked up about nothing honestly, sort of similar to when everyone was freaking out about LSU taking TV
Another interesting point Evan brought up was that this is two straight seasons Burns has been moved to the pen.The Basilio Show has Evan Russell on as their weekly guest during baseball season, and they’ve been saying today that it isn’t about money and that Burns was bothered by the midseason move to the bullpen and has been planning to leave for weeks.
