I would be for mixing in the slide step every 8-10 pitches to help control the running. It doesn’t change the arm slot and the majority of our guys are athletic enough to do this.

It’s much better than a pitch out to keep base runners honest.

Mix that with a good defensive catcher and the problem is minimized

It is an easy “problem” to see BUT Is it really a problem?

A SB leads to ERs but we all
Know ERA isn’t a program: also I’d argue that in our ballpark the SB is damn near null and void. No need to risk even the slightest chance of a CS with a 2Run HR a pop up away from happening.

It’s why I am on the fence with this “problem”.

We will find out soon enough about Chase Burns until then I’m not getting bent out of shape by some “Twitter insider”. Personally I believe we will pay the man and he’ll stay….Go Vols!
I believe we have the capacity and desire to keep him. He also pitched like someone committed to UT. I think we are worked up about nothing honestly, sort of similar to when everyone was freaking out about LSU taking TV

I view the “problem” as something that is more relevant on the road and especially post season.

If we add the slide step into our quiver to keep runners honest I think it helps. But we don’t need to be stupid about. Know the situation.

Frank refuses to pitch from the stretch.

I know a few posters will quote this saying we do pitch from the stretch, but it’s pathetic.
For the last time, of course we pitch from the stretch with runners on first or second base—this is an absolute, Indisputable fact. What we don’t do is do a slide step because CFA believes in a repeatable delivery and feels that a slide step puts more stress/strain on arm/shoulder.

The tweet says he has not closed the door on returning. Does this mean he is negotiating more NIL dollars??
It is starting to sound like there's probably less than 1% chance he returns. It apparently isn't about money...we've made an extremely generous offer. It is allegedly about him simply being unhappy. Unhappy with Frank Anderson's coaching style, unhappy about his move to the bullpen. Money isn't likely to change that, and he's got a foot out the door. I wouldn't bank on him returning.

The Basilio Show has Evan Russell on as their weekly guest during baseball season, and they’ve been saying today that it isn’t about money and that Burns was bothered by the midseason move to the bullpen and has been planning to leave for weeks. They said it was LSU that prompted him to decide to leave but that TCU and Vandy are the possible destinations at this point. I don’t know where they’re getting TCU and Vandy from - they could just be reading that on the web. But, they said they’ve known he was planning to leave for weeks but kept it quiet on air. Some people on VN will think Basilio is lying about knowing it for weeks, but Evan Russell didn’t challenge on air when Basilio said he passed the info on to Russell weeks ago. They’ve speculated that the energy exhibited by Burns coming off the mound at times has been him being fired up (and ticked by) the move to the bullpen.

fwiw I can confirm those close to Burns weren’t happy with Anderson BEFORE he was moved to the pen.

No one has the right to tell anyone in this country that they can’t make money when someone is willing to pay them for their services or likeness. If you’re anti-capitalism because you don’t like the effect it has on sports, that’s your prerogative. But I didn’t address how good or bad it is…it’s simply the law. And it’s not statutory. It’s constitutional.

Alston was a 9-0 decision. The justice panel wasn’t divided among ideological lines or any other lines. It was an unanimous declaration by this nation’s ultimate adjudicator of the U.S. constitution. Anyone is free to read the decidion. The legal reasoning is not controversial. It’s cut and dry. Whether we like its effect on sports or not is irrelevant.
You're absolutely correct. My contention is we're no longer seeing amateur sports, something I personally prefer to enjoy.
And I think it's was " bad idea" .
Everything starts out as someone's idea.

Battered Vol syndrome is not just limited to Football. When it metastasizes, all sports are impacted.

I think Burns is gonna be a first rounder whether he stays or goes and I’d hope he and Frank could work out any differences they have but that ship may have sailed already , my concern is it’s not a slam dunk and all things great at the next place he could be going too , I know FA and Tony protect their guys from over throwing and not blow any bodies arm out , at least Burns gave his best effort in the post season and I’m thankful for that , I’m hoping he stays but we’ll be just fine if he doesn’t

Tennessee is probably just holding the paperwork on Chase Burns until after the CWS. TN has until to until tomorrow to turn it in since weekends don't count against the 48 Hours. Don’t want to have Tennessee pitcher Chase Burns transferring running across the bottom of the screen during the championship game tonight. Also don’t want to have it talked about during the broadcast.

The lack of verifiable information is frustrating. I opened an article on Peebles (whom is at least in the portal) yesterday, only to learn the five most likely landing places were LSU (go figure), Texas A@M ( I guess joining Drew Beam), Kentucky (writer must be a graduate), Virginia (because he's originally from Virginia) and Arkansas (because Dave Van Horn is a great coach). I feel badly for NC State. They have found and helped develop a great player two years in a row only to see him portalled away.

Bottom line these articles are guessing at best or just plain fabrications. The player may know what he wants to do and maybe close family members and advisors also know. Everyone else is trying to benefit off the anxiety and frenzied need to know.

Another interesting point Evan brought up was that this is two straight seasons Burns has been moved to the pen.

He was sent there when Tidwell returned last season, as well, and then presumably promised a return to the starting lineup this season.

Then he gets pushed to the pen again with presumably a promise to return to the starting lineup, again, next season.

There is a good chance that, right or wrong, he has lost trust in this staff to keep their word. And in that sense, I kind of sympathize with his position a little more if that is the case. I don't think Tony V is a distrustful person, necessarily, and the situations dictated the moves to the pen. They weren't personal decisions. Burns just seems to have been caught up in the middle of it two years running, and his feelings are hurt. That reminder of it happening last year makes his position a little more understandable.
