How did it get so bad so quick? Surely it’s more than just getting moved to the bullpen. Anyways best of luck to the young man and hope he does well in the MLB after next year. Next man up! We have the #1 recruiting class coming in and the #2 class for 2025 so far. The program is in great hands as long as Tony V is ay the Helm. I’ll trust what ever decision he and Frank make about our staff.
Wonder if Corona is someone we would consider? Think he played second base at Wake, not positive, but he played SS at the Baylor School in Chat, I believe. Do we have any stud SS's that we expect to make it to campus in the recruiting class? With Ahuna most likely getting drafted, just seems like one of our most needed positions to fill.
I dont believe the class coming in (2023 class) is ranked that high. More like 15-20 in most publications. But I’m sure UT will hit the portal for some solid pickups.I will not speak bad about Burns. Every interaction I have had with Burns he has always been respectful and a very likable kid. He always takes the time to speak to the kids and sign autographs after every game. Burns has also carried himself like a professional and supported UT very well while his time in Knoxville. With that I hope he has a long MLB career and look forward to seeing what life has in store for him next.
Since Vitello has come to this program he has turned it around along as he changed the expectations. I believe Vitello will replace Burns with a quality player rather it’s through the portal or through the #1 class coming in. Now let’s get behind the guys that decided to stay and the ones that are coming in and get ready for next season. Vitello knows best and we will be fine as long as he is the coach at UT.
If Chase is doing this because someone is in his ear telling him he needs to. Then he's getting bad advice. Pitching out of the pen wouldn't hurt his chances at starting at the next level at all. Major league teams are desperate for starting pitching he would still get a shot. I mean hell the Reds tried to make Chapman a starter at one point.
Pitching from the pen would hurt his draft stock next year. But he wouldn’t be pitching from the pen next year (or this year) if he pitched well.If Chase is doing this because someone is in his ear telling him he needs to. Then he's getting bad advice. It's not about ERA it's about developing a 3rd pitch. Wherever he goes he's going to have to show either a changeup or curve to go in the first.I’m no scout, but seems to me he’s a lot more draftable (including as a potential starter) going 6 innings out of the pen with an ERA of ~1 than as a starter lasting 4 innings with an ERA of 12.
There it is.
