I disagree, but you didn't really give me anything to work with. LSU is a traditionally strong baseball program that won a championship like they have in the past. That has very little to do with my assertion that breaking open the NIL vault to keep a relief pitcher is not a smart move.

What really ticks me off Bruin is that they were willing to pay for it and we were not. Skenes and Tommy White visited here before deciding that the LSU offer was to much to turn down. LSU has a lot of history and support to win every year

Has nothing to do with willing, but ability. We don't have baseball donors giving 10million to the program.

I am confident to say that UT wasn’t willing to guarantee Skenes anything anyway. We had 3 great starters coming back. LSU’s pitching wasn’t great, so they could. His situation was different.

I'm really beginning to get gun shy with anything Beech High School.

Where is Jalen Hurd now?

That being said, I don't have ill will toward Mr. Burns. We were all young and driven by emotion and energy.

It is odd how similar these two situations area even though involving different sports.

We were going to outspend LSU to keep Burns. Money isn’t the issue. LSU has better everything besides coach than us right now.

People here will say it doesn’t matter, but the tradition, facilities and cathedral that LSU plays in vs what we have is night and day. And it does make a difference.

The UT staff doesn’t guarantee anything. Nor should they. You want that weekend spot? Earn it. I assure you pro ball provides no guarantees of anything. Period.

No lol. LSU .ade guarantees that Tomy wouldn't. Same thing was said for White he wanted to be guaranteed 3B and Tony wouldn't.
Lastly from what I've seen Tony wanted Skeens as a catcher. He wanted to pitch.

Skenes wanted a guaranteed starting pitching spot...so which one of the 3 of Doe, Beam, and Burns were you gonna tell to hit the road after the season those guys had in 22'?

Without one-year rentals in Skenes, White, Cooper, and Hurd, it’s unlikely LSU wins a natty.

You think Hurd, Skenes, White, Cooper, Ack all went there for free? LSU wasn’t even in Skenes and Whites top 3 when he took visit to them. And all of sudden they get to LSU and never leave. Money was involved and it’s not secret.

That's fair. If Burns wins CWS Mvp next season, I'll comeback and apologize. Until then, I still think it's silly to open the bank for a guy Vitello has already determined is a reliever. Everyone in here wants to worship LSU, but it's baseball. They were dangerously close to being put out of the whole thing by Wake. You can't just spend wildly and expect to win. Maybe it worked out for LSU this year, but building a program takes way more than just throwing money at every transfer pitcher who pops into the portal.

Of course money was involved, I'm not debating that point. My only real point was giving Burns a blank check seemed dumb to me.
