It pretty much sucks. Too much attrition and one year rentals. Many will be gone before you learn their names. I‘m not sure how this will play out but feels like UK basketball with their one and done “team“.It’s def not a brand new team at all. We aren’t replacing at 9 position starters like the year before, return some pitching. The portal doesn’t suck especially for baseball. A lot kids would transfer to juco before goin back D1 baseball. Tennessee is doing what it needs to to be in a position to be a championship contender again.
Agreed. Each person should be able to treat it differently
remember the op suggested it all should stay within the confines of the lockeroom. That’s not allowing each person to handle it differently
unfortunately for better or worse, the landscape of college sports has changed forever. I'm glad we have a baseball coach who has accepted the facts and is out in front of the "new system" and using to to his advantage. We will still have 4 year guys that stick it out and contribute however when a hole is needed to be filled quickly, the portal is a necessary evil that all great/good teams will use to their advantage.I dont care who's better. Stark and Charlie have been here. I'd rather see them get their shot than just buying All Stars out of the portal. I don't care about this Pebbles kid or Ammick. I want to see the kids who have been in the program.
I actually see both sides here they are getting an all around better catcher, but these other guys committed here because they thought Tennessee was there best opportunity to play. I really like Taylor im sure he is a terrific young man but I think the SEC is just a little above his talent level. I know it's way above my level when I was in school years ago.IOW, you'd rather be on your high horse than win.
Why would/did you say those things about Kirby and @preacherman20 4 years ago? Seems very spiteful and odd (trying to be nice here) to call out a player and his Father in that manner.

Step off. Been here since 2009. I just prefer the 2022 type of team. Lots of home grown talent. We likely won’t see anything like Trey Lipscomb, Jorel Ortega, or Cortland Lawson ever again. I get that times change but not Necessarily for the better. I appreciate what CTV is doing under the current NIL rules. CTV is on record saying that the portal is a necessary evil, and isn’t a fan of it.This has to be Mr. Checkerboards burner account here on VN.
You and I are 100% in agreement. I appreciate CTV’s hard work and am glad he’s leveraging current environment for improving the team. I just don’t like the one year rentals. It’s going to make the rich richer and less HS seniors will be recruited by P5.I get the uproar over the tranfers but it IS the way now. If you don't adapt then you get left behind.
I'm not a fan of it either but when all of your competition is doing the same thing then your hands are tied. The cat is out of the bag. Even if CTV were to choose to not take tansfers there would be many other teams out there coming after our guys. Would be nearly impossible to compete!
I don’t have much to report right now on Clemson transfer Billy Amick, which is obviously the chief target that South Carolina fans want to know about. I don’t know a lot of the specifics of what made an impression on him at Tennessee, but do know that it was very positive for the Volunteers. That trip has concluded and he’s back home now. I hope to have another update later this evening.
Difference of opinion then and now on what I said. He does not like how we recruit then and now and I think it is smart business. I think you go get the best players, give them a chance to earn a spot, and some times guys leave. Whether they are walk-ons, preferred walk-ons, scholarship guys, juco transfers, portal transfers, or NIL guys. The preacher was downgrading walkons that were recruited and with the team in the fall and didn’t make the 35 man roster. I found that to be especially unbecoming of a parent snubbing their nose at players that had committed to playing for the Vols only to see their dreams snatched away by a coach that over recruits.
Keep in mind for every good ending like his son has seen come true there are multiple bad ones…
For me I treat all kids that are recruited to play at any program as more than a number…he doesn’t

Does any successful P5 program only have 35 players at camp in the Fall? Many players can’t handle the demands of the program, College life, or their newly found independence, and will leave on their own. Others aren’t putting in the work or don’t rise to the level of competition so don’t understand why you wouldn’t have several extra players to compete. The preacher was downgrading walkons that were recruited and with the team in the fall and didn’t make the 35 man roster. really like really. Home grown talentStep off. Been here since 2009. I just prefer the 2022 type of team. Lots of home grown talent. That is a lie. I said there are walk-ons and preferred walk-ons. Walk-ons are there by their choice and preferred walk-ons are recruited are recruited and given a spot. Actually the funny thing is since our discussion, there have been some of my son's teammates that admitted they were not recruited by the past coaching staff but walked on and earned their spot. He made it out to be that there is no difference between walk-ons and preferred walk-ons. Tried to say I was discrediting them because they were not recruited. Obviously after 4 years of watching me, you guys know that is not the truth but he still holds his narrative. He is a negative fan who only comes on here to trash the coaches. He does not like and never has liked Coach V and I called him on it back then and still do today. No they all cut and that’s fine but by golly those kids that get cut count as people and not numbers. He said his son wouldn’t treat them as teammates until they made the roster
that’s some bs

So you rather not upgrade the roster while everyone else is and sit the best players on the bench because they been here longer? I see winning isn’t a priority with you then. This is a business and if you don’t Perform you will be recruited over. If you want to play perform when given the chance.I dont care who's better. Stark and Charlie have been here.
