Agreed. I don’t get the vitriol against folks who are simply stating that they don’t like the new era of one year rentals and NIL pay to play. I think we both 100% agree that CTV and staff are doing a tremendous job under the current rules. We just don’t like the current “rules”. I bet LSU will be the first to pay $10M for a player. It will be absurd.I'm not trying to say Tony is doing anything wrong, I hate the game not the player.
Is it really that different than kids moving on to the pros and new faces coming in? And the only player we've lost to the portal so far that saw significant innings was Burns. Sure, we're bringing in new faces from the portal, but we're bringing in new faces from recruiting as well.So pretty much a brand new team next year.
This portal **** sucks
Actually no, you are just being soft because I called you out and making it think Tennessee is using the portal to take 10 plus guys over guys who have been there and they are not. Peebles is the one who is only doin that. Everyone is filling a hole. You are wanting something even before the portal didn’t happen as much as you think. Instead of portal players it was juco players that was used to do the same thing. Plug and fill. Everyone can agree the portal sucks for players using NIL. When players are using to find a new home and develop them selves a better player. That is no different.
I'm not trying to say Tony is doing anything wrong, I hate the game not the player.
You misquoted me as I never stated anything remotely to your opening line. Obviously transfers happened prior to NIL and portal, but typically had to sit out a year and was a FRACTION of the transfers in this environment. None previously were one year pay to play rentals.
i stand by what I said. Your ”facts” are weakActually no, you are just being soft because I called you out and making it think Tennessee is using the portal to take 10 plus guys over guys who have been there and they are not. Peebles is the one who is only doin that. Everyone is filling a hole. You are wanting something even before the portal didn’t happen as much as you think. It allowed it to happen more but it didn’t happen that much. Why 2022 Tennessee baseball team was rare portal era/non portal era. It’s rare kids are gonna sit that long and not go the transfer route, either juco and now portal. That was blue moon type team and that no one ever is gonna forget. But if portal didn’t exist, kids would just hit the juco route instead of sitCertainly won’t happen now under NIL and transfer portal but prior environment allowed it to happen.
It is because of the word commitment meaning something. It is because it takes talent and stockpiles everyone on to just a few teams. Is it really that different than kids moving on to the pros and new faces coming in? And the only player we've lost to the portal so far that saw significant innings was Burns. Sure, we're bringing in new faces from the portal, but we're bringing in new faces from recruiting as well.
Nope, you can't stockpile talent at all. In and out every season.Yea TV has to do it and I actually think he’s better suited in the “old way”. He’s such a damn good evaluator of young talent. Now he can’t offer young kids so that hurts and other coaches like JayJ that can’t evaluate as well just goes out and buys ready made players
The system sucks and it isn’t necessarily good for TV
Some of these kids don’t do it for the money. Zane Denton played for Bama for 3 years. Then he transferred to the Vols. He from Tennessee and wanted to just simply play at home. Some kids do it for the exposure. Some kids do it because they not happy(Chase Burns).Correct, recruiting over kids is a part of the game, I have no problem with that. But kids jumping P5 school to P5 school for a check or because they get their feelings hurt is ridiculous.
What are they going to do at the next level when they get told no?
Well Blake Burke is actually from California.really like really. Home grown talent
So:
Drew Beam, Christian Moore, Blake Burke, Hunter Ensley, Tears, Wyatt Evans, Drieling, Chapman, Zander Sechrist, Aj Russell arent home grown talent, guys that have come in as freshman that have/had made an impact already. All those I just named are gonna make it, and not counting freshman you didn’t get much time past season that will.
It’s not like Tennessee is going out and getting 10 plus guys. They aren’t. Tennessee is getting 6 at max that feels holes on the team and doesn’t put the pressure on freshman who aren’t ready.
So it's okay for a coach to recruit over a kid, but it's not okay for a kid to take his talent elsewhere? It is because of the word commitment meaning something. It is because it takes talent and stockpiles everyone on to just a few teams.
