Portal Activity (News and Rumors)

I dont care who's better. Stark and Charlie have been here. I'd rather see them get their shot than just buying All Stars out of the portal. I don't care about this Pebbles kid or Ammick. I want to see the kids who have been in the program.
Tell me you are not a coach or AD without telling me you are not a coach or AD........Exhibit A

That is a lie. I said there are walk-ons and preferred walk-ons. Walk-ons are there by their choice and preferred walk-ons are recruited are recruited and given a spot. Actually the funny thing is since our discussion, there have been some of my son's teammates that admitted they were not recruited by the past coaching staff but walked on and earned their spot. He made it out to be that there is no difference between walk-ons and preferred walk-ons. Tried to say I was discrediting them because they were not recruited. Obviously after 4 years of watching me, you guys know that is not the truth but he still holds his narrative. He is a negative fan who only comes on here to trash the coaches. He does not like and never has liked Coach V and I called him on it back then and still do today.

Btw TV has really grown on me over the years. I like him a lot now

some advice….

You and your son hear this….

treat every single kid that gets gear, dresses in that Lockeroom this fall with respect as if they are all are on Full ride scholarships. Anything less than that respect is being a bad teammate and sticking your nose in the air like you are somehow better than them.

Besides even you admit here in this post all those type kids have made the rosters over the years so treat them ALL like teammates

really like really. Home grown talent
So:
Drew Beam, Christian Moore, Blake Burke, Hunter Ensley, Tears, Wyatt Evans, Drieling, Chapman, Zander Sechrist, Aj Russell arent home grown talent, guys that have come in as freshman that have/had made an impact already. All those I just named are gonna make it, and not counting freshman you didn’t get much time past season that will.
It’s not like Tennessee is going out and getting 10 plus guys. They aren’t. Tennessee is getting 6 at max that feels holes on the team and doesn’t put the pressure on freshman who aren’t ready.
again, step off.

I played well over 30 years ago for the Big Orange..........

I never got to know the names of the walk-on's each Fall because it was a waste of my time.....

We might have kept 1 in 4 years.......and I got work to do to get ready to play SEC ball in a few months....

So you rather not upgrade the roster while everyone else is and sit the best players on the bench because they been here longer? I see winning isn’t a priority with you then. This is a business and if you don’t Perform you will be recruited over. If you want to play perform when given the chance.
I'd rather it not be an option.

And to some in this thread...We didn't forget about you.........

I agree it's not ideal but saying something like "I'd rather see a catcher that can't even reach the Mendoza line over a freshman AA" is absurd. If any position is begging for an upgrade via the portal it's catcher. Also, transfers happened prior to the portal/NIL. It's not like every player that transfers is doing it for NIL reasons, so his description as such is head-scratching if not ridiculous.
You misquoted me as I never stated anything remotely to your opening line. Obviously transfers happened prior to NIL and portal, but typically had to sit out a year and was a FRACTION of the transfers in this environment. None previously were one year pay to play rentals.

So tell me you don’t have a clue what’s going on without admitting it lol

Same for the coaches there trying to do what they think is best for the team which is win baby. I do think the coaches try to do what's best for the pitchers and take care of their arms. Being moved from one spot to another is perceived to be the best for the team.

That made the team? YES. And he never played. FACTS over feelings.. Preferred walk-ons are different than "walk-ons"... treated different too. I'm talking walk-ons only...

If kids perform they will play. College isn’t a place where participation trophies are handed out. It’s a real life business and if you don’t win enough it impacts innocent peoples lives. When a coach gets fired for not winning enough it’s not his family fault, but they have to go through it as well. End of the day the best players should play. Plane and simple. If you don’t want to lose your spot then perform so you don’t.

What’s your name if you played 30 years ago. We would all like to see what kind of stud you were.

None of those you named except for Ensley have sat behind other Vols for several years before earning their opportunity to start. Lipscomb. Lawson, and Ortega are totally different examples that I provided.

You take your shot best one wins out whether here for 4 yrs., transfer or freshman. TV is paid to put people in the seats and run clean operation. Loyalty or favorites finds you another job.

Correct, recruiting over kids is a part of the game, I have no problem with that. But kids jumping P5 school to P5 school for a check or because they get their feelings hurt is ridiculous.
What are they going to do at the next level when they get told no?

Fair

you are talking about open tryouts for all students. They last 1-2 days in 99.9% of the cases

I speaking of recruited walkons that are with the team all fall that eventually are cut.

You understand that rare as hell that players sit that long. That doesn’t happen much like at all. Even before the portal, kids would go to juco instead of sitting the bench.

It’s simple as this, Tennessee and Tony V wanna keep winning and have championship caliber team, then they have to do what is means necessary to keeps this train rollin. Don’t like it. Don’t watch. Simple as that.
