I was surprised at that too. I know they had to keep Grice in the game or they’d lose the DH but he played CF when the starter was tossed, so I’m sure he could have played LF. I couldn’t believe that they removed Amick from the game.

Let’s say we do get Amick and Galanie comes here. That’s 3 position players from the portal. I think you all are being a tad bit dramatic about building our “entire team” through the portal. TV is filling holes. The entire outfield and 1B will be returning players and like so will one of SS/2B. I don’t think this “chemistry” issue is a big deal. No different than a freshman SS coming in and taking the position. Still a new face.

I don’t think it’s fair to compare a freshmen coming in to a portal guy. One knows they have to fight like hell to win a job while the portal guy comes in expecting a job. The freshmen also sees time left coming for them while the portal guy doesn’t

You can’t afford to bring a portal guy in and them not be happy: that’s the team chemistry issue imo

What sealed the deal for me as far as Rogers goes was his “superstar” label for Galanie. I think he backtracked as well.

You are just assuming all of our players are being made promises. You are also assuming these guys are pretty selfish people and will throw a fit if they get outplayed and lose the job. I just don’t think the Kentucky basketball comparison or the chemistry comparison is a fair one. Look at Burns. He is a guy we recruited out of high school and the “reports” are he was as much of a chemistry cancer as any of the portal guys we brought in. This narrative you’re building just doesn’t fit.

I am not assuming promises at all. I’m assuming a kid that was the player of the year in his league no matter what level expects a big role here. Doesn’t mean he was promised Anything.

all I am saying is these “established” highly successful portal guys ain’t going to their next stop to fight for a job. They think they already have it even it they ain’t promised

IIRC, he compared the practice of restocking rosters with one year rentals to Kentucky basketball, which has generally constructed rosters for 15 years using the mercenary method. It hurts a fan's ability to become invested in their career. I understand his point if that is what he was driving at, and I've stated how UK fans have disliked it for some time, now.

You insinuated that every portal player we recruit is coming in expecting to be handed a starting position.

Those are apples and oranges.

I think the thing is we as fans look at portal guys like HendonH, JoeB and Milton and assume their are Similar. They aren’t. These sought after baseball portal guys are very different. They have already “arrived” as successful players while a larger number of the football guys haven’t.


Thus why IMO they assume they have a big role the moment they step onto campus

They might assume they have a big role, but I think it’s still unfair to peg them all as most likely to cause locker room issues. I think it boils down to do you trust Tony or not. He made a tough decision to remove Burns from his starter role when he wasn’t producing and I assume he would do the exact same thing if Peebles or Galanie ended up busting. And I trust that following the Burns fiasco, Tony isn’t going to bring someone into this culture if he thinks the player is a danger to the program.
