That is a dude that might not even make it to campus because he could get drafted high enough to go ahead and sign. That seems pretty high profile. 🤷

I don’t know. I think there is some nuance here. Galanie might not make it to campus, but he isn’t going to be drafted high. He’s an older player and he is most likely going to be taken in the 2nd half of the draft (Rounds 11-20) if anything. That is what has been said by several different people. I don’t consider that high-profile. Again, this is all semantics and doesn’t matter, but high-profile is something you use when everyone knows the person, place, or thing you are talking about. It’s “the best of the best” basically. Kendall is smart enough to know that. I think he got wind that Amick’s visit went very well, sounded like he was going to commit, and when he slowed it down and decided to finish his visits Kendall pivoted to Galanie as the recruit he meant.

FYI, Eric Cain seems to believe it’s Tennessee or LSU for Luke Holman. Holman has a visit scheduled for Tennessee July 15-16 and that is the only visit right now planned, but one to LSU could pop up. He says it will be a tough pull, but we are positioned well and Drew Beam has worked Holman and developed an extremely close relationship at Team USA that could be an X factor in the recruitment.
His family may be well off and come watch him every weekend no matter where he plays but Knoxville is literally 1/2 the distance to his hometown in PA as Baton Rouge and a straight shot down 81. 8.5 hours isn’t a skip down the road but much more manageable than 17.5 hrs or a plane ticket every other weekend.

Both likely plane trips so I think that’s a wash

But this angle may be important for Amick. Knoxville is closer than Gainesville

Siap but I heard we lost the lefty that originally signed with Ga tech from Nashville to Vandy. He would have been a good get

Im sure you guys won’t like this but I’m told the Burns camp had something to do with it as they bashed FA
That FA staff in the last 7 games has held Vandy to 1.7 RPG, meanwhile the vaunted Scott Brown rotation has given up 8 RPG in those 7 games. The bashing of Frank is clearly warranted.

I don’t know. Felt more like Kendall course correcting to make himself look right when things didn’t turn out how he expected. Galanie isn’t a “superstar”. He might not even get drafted in the first 10 rounds. Feels a bit overkill to call him a “superstar” which at least to me tells me that he’s using that terminology to try and make it fit with the “high-profile” line he used on Friday. Not that it matters though ultimately.
KR is great at “pontificating” after the fact. I’ll never forget his coaching search carousel when we hired CTV, he dropped his name after it leaked out from local media and claimed it was CTV the whole time and he had basically called it, when in fact he had never once mentioned his name until it was official.

I'm beginning to feel we need to "trust the process" and not try to plug every hole with a transfer.

We have recruited high schoolers well and sooner or later we have to live and die with them.

I know it was a slightly different era, but Coach Delmonico relied heavily on JUCO guys as he tried to ween the program off this problem and I believe that was part of the problem causing the program fluctuations. JUCO in baseball is completely different than every other collegiate sports as great kids with good kids still opt for JUCO due to the draft and other advantages it gives. However, a D1 program may only have a great JUCO guy for a season. his best teams were built off the phenomenal 1993 freshman class that still had strong JUCO guys as well.

A tranfer-centric team will likely have the same problems as Kentucky basketball has. They may have a strong team now and then but the turmoil will be insane.
the 2000-2003 teams were long-term guys who bonded.

Maybe we need to see what the freshmen can do. Perhaps the coaches know there's gaps the freshmen can't fill. Maybe that's why there's been no pursuit of a transfer SS as the staff know there's someone in the wings who will be better than the transfers out there.

Billy Amick's dad, Lyndon, was a NASCAR Busch Series driver back in the day. In fact, he was just on FOX over Memorial Day talking about serving his time overseas. I can't imagine they are hurting for cash. Also, didn't Amick's grandfather work at Clemson? Basically he was a legacy guy? I'm so confused as to why he would leave, but my uniformed opinion tells me this has nothing to do with money. I'm pretty sure someone posted earlier about being connected to the family, so I'm sure they know more about this internally.

I am not particularly connected to anyone on the baseball staff, but the buzz in the AD is Amick is coming here. He's hammering out NIL outside university purview, but the word is that this is going well too. Everything is a little slow given the holiday week, but he could announce today if things get finished on that front. If not, I assume he would not announce tomorrow (conjecture on my part). Galanie has told the staff he's coming to play, and it will take a meaningful upside surprise to change that.

I look back at the Tennessee game where he got benched when Grice was taken off mound and Grice was placed at first. I'm guessing that was not the first time that happened as I'm not sure why the coaches would bench Amick of all people when Amick and Grice could go to other positions. So it may be a similar story to Chase Burns' situationg

I feel queasy

Lol

Truth is Wes rucker suggesting the Vols are just stockpiling bats that are too good to pass up and not necessarily for a specific Position isn’t reality. TV is too smart to just take a bunch of portal guys without a specific plan to play them in a specific spot. Like you say it becomes a Kentucky basketball team chemistry issue

Glad you make mention as I did the same yesterday as was ridiculed for it lol
