Huh? It must be linebackers as highest priority, then DB’s! Did you not see how bad we were on third down because of quarterbacks breaking contain and roasting our linebackers then secondary?!?!?1. Elite skill player on O
2. DBs
3. LBs
I think we are probably worse at lb than the other positions but the others are of more value
True. But we are seeing a lot of good players go in the portal and will continue to do so because of the coaching changes. This is the perfect year for plug and play players. Diabute, Verse, Copeland, etc. could all start her next year.only 4 of our 13 transfers from 2021 ended up plug and play guys, Hooker, Payton, McGrath and Mitchell. Mitchell was lost to injury. Others contributed as backups but I would not consider them plug and play/

Rotating in unproven players is the beautiful part of college football…see Jameson Williams this year. See Joe Burrow a couple years ago. See Hendon and Tillman to some extent this year. There’s still not really any proven guys behind him. There’s talent, but Jalin struggled last year at times and Calloway had an issue with drops. VQ has alluded to their being some potential transfers at that spot but even if there’s not you’re always looking to upgrade.
Have you checked and seen how many times they DID get off the field on 3rd down??Ring INT 4 FR WR, , getting ANY transfer WR is not as important as LB and S. The damn D has to get off field on 3rd down!
Good list. I would have loved to see a DT destroy Corral on one of those draws.1. Jared Verse - elite pass rush DE. We saw too many wasted opportunities on 3rd and long to get off the field due to lack of a consistent pass rush. IMO Verse would give us that edge presence that’s able to consistently bring QB pressure on passing downs.
2. LB- need desperate help in the middle. I like that Banks improves after getting dominated by the ole miss center, but I’m not going to put all the blame on Banks because the coaches failed to adjust. Wish we would have moved a DT in the center-guard gap to help stop the center lead QB draw.
3. Shutdown Corner - would absolutely love to get Eli Ricks but don’t believe there’s any connection or chance here, but you never know.
4. Safely- could use some on the backend
5. QB- I don’t think there’s anyway to go into the season with 3 scholarship QBs.
6. WR - this depends on CT. If he returns then I don’t believe we take one.
7. OL- Mincey
Hodge was the other one.
Competition breeds greatness. The biggest adjustment that kids have to make when they get to college is competition. Most of them have been the best on their team, or in the area their whole lives. In college, everybody there had high school glory and accolades. Having to compete every single day to move up a depth chart is completely foreign. Standing on the sidelines is something they've never done, and everybody in their home towns keeps telling them how great they are. Some kids just can't handle it and go somewhere to get that back. You have to be willing to put in the extra work continuously and constantly prove you belong. Sometimes that takes 3-4 years. Your mental fortitude has to be stronger than your physical.Hodge just announced he’s going to Indiana State. As good as he’s supposed to be according to many East TN Vol fans on here, it’s shocking that he didn’t land with a better program than Indiana State. Of course, he was only in the portal for 4 months. Maybe he needed more time.
