'25 Portal Thread

We went into this year with Sampson (who was unproven as a bell cow, questionable in pass protection, and had been 3rd string behind Wright/Small), an injured Seldon, a RS freshman walk-on in Bishop, and a true freshman in Lewis. Oh, and Keith, another RS freshman.

That’s a bigger unknown situation than the one you describe for next year. Folks wanted UT to get a portal RB, but Heupel stood pat and we ended up seeing why.

They know what they have.
That first sentence is laughable!
If you didn’t know Sampson was the most talented back on the team last year,
You’re in a class by yourself,
A class of one.

Man, you really want a RB ha ha

IYO, do you not like what we have coming back?

I really like what we have coming back IF Sampson decides to go.

Bishop is fine, imo. We need someone to compliment him.

Lewis will be good, but he hasn’t shown anything against starting players…he’s look fine against the backups.

After a season like this, you can’t go into next year with one somewhat proven RB.

Then you have Seldon and Keith…neither have shown anything. That’s not fair to Seldon because he’s been injured, but it’s the truth. I’m not saying go after an All-American as much as I’d like one, but find someone that’s proven and that can compliment Bishop.

Fair enough.

I would think our offensive system might make it a little more difficult for some RBs to transfer in and be comfortable with pass protection and the schemes.

Then again, I’m sure CJH can simplify things for an elite RB

I feel like each of the past 2 years we've left one season thinking this same thing... And both years guys in the room that we've seen flash, took over in their opportunity to do so.

I really like Lewis. I'm still very hopeful for Seldon. He certainly looks the part, but this off season is big for him, no doubt.

I'm not sure Keith can do more than he has so far.

Is Justin Baker gonna play rb or lb? I'm excited about Morris but he's gonna be true freshman.

Yeah..I can see a need for a 1 year guy.

How you equate saying “unproven as the bell cow” with questioning his talent is beyond me.

He had never been a starter. He’d never been the primary RB to carry the load before this season. That’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. He was UNPROVEN AS THE BELL COW.

Yes, we all knew he was talented. Could he hold up? Could he pass protect? Could he be a 3 down back?

Obviously, the answer was yes. But the question was there because he’d never done it before.

I feel like the OL will be better next year similar to how the secondary got better this year. Spraggs and Campbell have not been good. Heard will be improved at LT, hopefully Karic is back. I think we will definitely be improved at RG and RT

The only concern I have is Center

He had 604 yards, 5.7 per carry, 7 tds and 50 yards per game last year as # THREE. Back.
I think he had proven he was legit, and surprised no one with what he’s done.

I think we don’t need to take a running back now we got morris in the boat.

I’d be shocked if we did.

Lewis and Bishop look to be the next 1,000 yard rushers and we have serious talent in Seldon, Keith, Morris, & Baker next up

Barring injury we are big time set up for success at that position. Bring me LB & S & OL

Would not be mad at an elite FG kicker as well
Two headed monster seldon/lewis next year.

It is very difficult for a 300 pound offensive tackle to start in the SEC. Smith was the last one to do it at Tennessee and he weighed about 330 pounds. If Sanders enrlls in January and puts on about 20 pound in the off season, he may be able to see some playing time, but I don’t expect that to happen.

Darnell Wright started at RT as a Freshman.
