'25 Portal Thread

Let me make this simple for you where you might be able to understand.

1,2, 3 —/ these are just numbers.
You understand they do the same thing.
Carry the freaking football, block, etc.
He’s done all that plenty of times before this year to prove he’s more than capable.
So saying someone that had 600 rushing yards has never done it, is ignorance.

He might have been labeled the #3 but he more of every stat than small at #2.
Don’t get hung up on labels man.
They will confuse you
So he was the #1 RB who carried the majority of the workload before the 2024 season? No? Exactly. We're done.

If you want to disagree badly enough, you can. Even with facts you yourself admitted. This conversation ended when you said he was the # THREE RB. You just aren't self-aware enough to realize it.

Good day.

Yep we are done.
We disagree.
I’m on the side of the coaches.
We didn’t get a RB in the portal!
Why?
Despite what we had behind Sampson were truly unproven. None had hardly even seen the field,
Their was 0.000% doubt in their minds that he was the man.

Damn y’all still arguing over Dylan Sampson…
Everyone knew he was Very talented and would be a stud with more carries… the only unknown was could he stay healthy and could he sustain the Production over a seasons worth of hits compared to the drive or 2 a game he got. Like y’all are both right in certain aspects it.

Shame on everyone for talking bad about Webb, Leacock, and Nimrod.

Like most of you like to say around here “tHeY cAn dEveLoP, aNd iF wE get a tRaNsfeR it WiLl pUsH sOmEoNe oUt”

When I talk about getting a transfer RB, everyone gets all mad and hurt.

Funny how it works.

No one’s really upset but you about this. I get it you really want to be right about something

Getting to littlevol levels of posting through it now though

I’m 2021 we had basically no experience returning. Evans was a transfer.
Wright was a true freshman
Small had 100 yards previous year?

We then went on the break the UT rushing record IRRC in that season.

I think the portal need last season was because Sampson had been getting a lot of work as the spring RB and Fall Rb and they needed him fresh. So they rested him. But Seldon was injured. Lewis needed surgery. But then Bishop showed something in the spring and we we’re fine.

Yes, 2021 we added, I believe, the top Juco transfer RB in Evans. So we clearly saw a need to bring in someone with experience.

We were fine this year because Sampson is a work horse who didn't get injured. If we lost Sampson, for more than a game, it's very unlikely we would be in the playoffs right now.

Evans was a Pruitt recruit who held over. Just wanted to point that out for the record.

The roster at that point was so bad, there's no way they would've told him to look elsewhere. He sure was talented, but man, he was either always hurt or just didn't want to play before finally leaving the team. Shame. He could've been a stud, but that's the risk with JUCOs.

Man, you really want a RB ha ha

IYO, do you not like what we have coming back?

I really like what we have coming back IF Sampson decides to go.

I do not like that we have no one with much experience and that one our main contributors going into next year has been injury prone thus far in his Vol career.

Ok. If Huepel and the crew didn't think he was better than what we had, I'm sure they would have advised him to seek other options.

Listen trippie, we both seem to be around the same age; a generation who wants instant results and expect to see things now not later, so I get where your frame of reference originates. I do.

but it is a sign of a healthy program to be using the portal only to fill areas where development is not an option. Places where depth is injured or transferred out. At RB we only look to portal if what we currently have somehow isn’t the same after this season, if 2 guys transfer out. I doubt that happens. King said maybe, I assume he meant if there are transfers.

This idea you have that a 1,000 yard rusher or a 5 interception kid is going to come from UT Chattanooga and dominate for us is pretty silly. Nothing is concrete, obviously, but competition level matters.

I know you think Brazzell is going pro but this year he had 350 yards and 2 touchdowns as a 3rd year player, you’re telling me he cut his production more than in half after transferring? How is that good?

The portal is a great tool, but it can’t be the fix all let’s just take 20 kids a year tool you want it to be

Brother I was talking about posters giving me **** wanting a transfer RB.

I was giving that “****” back at them for saying the same thing I was but for different positions.

I don’t give a **** about being right.

It had nothing to do with you. So I don’t even know why you responded, thought we were cool.

Absolutely. Do you remember what "we had"?

We had 1 returning RB who'd barely seen the field in Jabari Small. We had Dee Beckwith, who had redshirted the prior season and didn't really have a position. And we had Le'neath Whitehead, who had also redshirted the prior year and had no business as a scholarship RB in the SEC. Also, we had a skinny 3* RB recruit named Jaylen Wright coming in. So we had (I just looked this up) 117 yards of returning RB production (all Small in garbage time).

They weren't turning anyone away.

Where do we have room for a running back? 83 roster spots, huge actual needs elsewhere, nearly 1,000 yards returning between Lewis, Bishop, Seldon, Keith. Two added backs the staff coveted in ‘25. What am I missing?

I think, again, if we somehow lost two of the above, YES we push for a back, but otherwise, I don’t see how it’s possible?

Maybe I’m a stupid concussed person (or whatever?) but that seems reasonable

Once the playoffs are over we might lose Seldon and Keith. So we’d lose Sampson, Keith and Seldon via NFL Draft and Transfer Portal

Leaving is with
Bishop (So), Lewis (So), Baker (Fr), Morris (Fr)

I think many people are used to seeing the explosion of Sampson and Wright and want that.
Bishop is faster than people think. Lewis has track speed but not the same wiggle as Sampson.

Even if Seldon and Keith stay, have we been able to depend on them?

Trippie just wants a talented but also proven guy.

if we lose them then of course we need someone

It’s not just me LOL

King came in here and said we would probably look for a portal RB.

Can we just start this thread over, Jesus.

its fine, ill bow out the thread. have been a fan of the portal so far, but am seeing a "lets just get everything in the portal" mentality lately that i dont believe healthy for a national championship team. Development is still the bedrock and we have a lot of young very talented players on our team

I agree with trippie, but hope Seldon stays, healthy I think he's a difference maker
