'25 Portal Thread

What RBs are getting close to NFL league minum in college? Can you specifically name someone specifically that you 100% know is getting that much?

Hardy just got close to a million to go to Missouri.

Are you intentionally being obtuse here? Things have been creeping this way for awhile now and it’s not a surprise to see the top 5 at any position get huge paychecks. Teams have needs, agents have knowledge of the market. A kid that may be worth $150k to one team is going for $500k because the market dictates it. The portal is dangerous because it’s an extremely expensive bandaid. One that sometimes isn't worth it.

I’m not saying we’ll pay big bucks for a 1 year player; im saying another team will and it’s hard to compete with that when our needs aren’t as high. Im not sure why you want to argue this point, either. How much do you think they are going for? $100,000? $150,000? That’s how much it costs to keep a freshman (who’s never played) on the roster, minimum. A 1,000 yard 10td kid from a fringe playoff team is going to get a fatass bag. This **** is expensive man. We are talking a billion dollar industry with million dollar employees

We dont need help at RB guys. We have Bishop, Lewis, Morris, Baker etx
Those guys are nothing more than names our fanbase is familiar with at this point. Bishop and Lewis have flashed their potential, but there’s nothing either of them have done that screams they’re SEC caliber RB1s and the other 2 are going to be true freshmen

Again there cannot be a cap.
There can’t be an NIL cap, but there could be a CBA. We all know it’s actually “NIL wink wink” anyway. If there were a CBA, players could still sign NIL deals, but imo the demand for that would be greatly reduced, as most of the entities that are paying NIL are doing so just to get the player on the team.

This is what doesn’t make sense to me.

Moe: 2nd team accolades, only gave up one sack in like 1000 snaps

Seldon: warmed the bench

They don’t have the scouting network in place for transfer portal entries like they do for high school recruits. They probably just have a simple algorithm grading these guys because there’s no scout reports on file since high school.

It will get better with time. Probably once Shannon Terry sells On3 and creates a new competitor.

Schools have increased their NIL funding this past year significantly. The going rate for a starting QB was $600-800k last year and $250-300k for a RB. We’ve seen multiple $1m+ QB deals already this early in the cycle and more to come. RB’s are asking $350-600k to start now and going up from there. It is what it is. Bigger budgets doesn’t necessarily mean more players just means agents know they can ask for more.

Getting "free school" isn't that hard. There are thousands of various scholarships available that make state schools relatively free to attend.

Colleges have made billions of dollars on the backs of college athletes whose compensation has been disproportionally smaller than their contribution. While they are not slave's, using a bit of hyperbole to describe the prior environment is hardly worthy of making the fuss you've made.

Let’s be real here. Without these universities giving these massive scholarships, would many of these athletes ever go to college or ever have a shot at the NFL? No they wouldn’t. A university is just like a company. The owners and board always make more than the employees.

Who is reporting that Hardy got near 1 million?

Who is reporting that any of these players are getting 150k-500k?

Again, from people that I know who have direct knowledge of at least 1 fairly high profile player (not at UT), NIL deals are not anywhere near as high as people are making them out to be. Maybe a handful are making serious bank. A lot of it also depends on your ability to market yourself. Clothing brands like Nico's NI8, are good money makers.

There will be a never ending eligibility soon. There will be no difference in pros and college. Stay as long as you want.
