Who is last transfer WR we took who really contributed their first year?

That’s my only thing about taking a WR, do they actually help first year?
Velus and Payton..both first year impacts. I know if you look up velus nbers his first year by thenselves youd think im wrong. He was second in receptions tds and yards..we were just that bad throwing the ball. Payton was the warmup for what Hyatt would become.

Excerpt from an article concerning Zachariah Branch:

Sophomore wide receiver Zachariah Branch entered the NCAA transfer portal Tuesday night.

However, one thing stood out about Branch's portal entry. According to Pete Nakos at On3, Branch entered with a "do not contact" tag, signaling that he likely already has schools in mind for his next destination.

It looks like Miami, Michigan, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Louisville are the programs he has been in contact with. The article goes on the say that his brother, who is also transferring, does not have a "Do not contact" tag.

Safety and slot would be two huge moves

Guess we don’t need any good portal WRs

A thousand yard 10 td rb is a lot more valuable in CFB than the NFL, ie teams will pay more, proportionally, for them

This kid is a top 5 portal back and so far the cheapest of that lot is asking $500k a year base with a bonus structure that exceeds a million
How do you find this information on NIL numbers?

So who is paying 1 mil for rb these days. OSU?

I am not seeing anything that suggests that, aside from the "valuations" you see on recruiting sites.

I can tell you Cooper Manning spoke out about Arch's NIL deal and dispelled rumors of how much Arch was making. Several NIL insiders have come forward and stated the ranges they are seeing at various positions, at it isn't anywhere close to a lot of the numbers being thrown around. Here's an article from CBS from back in May: Inside the college football NIL market: How much players at each position are actually getting paid

I work with the uncle of a kid who is currently a starting LB on a Power 4 team. I am told he's getting about 50k on a NIL deal currently and that he's one of the top earners on the defense. He also has the ability to make more through other venues that the NIL collective helps to set up (trading cards, autograph signings, jersey sales, Clothing lines, Twitch, Youtube, brand partnerships, etc.). A lot of their earning potential depends on their ability to market themselves.

I am not saying there aren't RBs making 500k or more. There likely are a select few. But those guys are power 4 backs with top tier production at the Power 4 level and/or they are legitimate top tier talents with NFL futures (like Makhi Hughes).

Smith is the one player that left that contributed and would have loved to have stayed. We are thankfully deep at linebacker and I think he knew he was good enough to get even more playing time where it wasn’t quite as deep. I think he will do very well at State. GBO

I wouldn't have minded losing Smith after the playoffs, but he has been a valuable depth piece this year. If someone goes down, his absence will be felt.

Velus Jones wasn’t a first year transfer under Heupel. He transferred to the Pruitt staff. His first year at Tennessee was 2020.

McCoy and Payton fit the bill. Although Payton was almost exclusively a 1-2 catch per game deep ball receiver. Had 18 catches and 6 were TDs.

Us finding out that Morris has impressed would make sense as to why Ismail Mahdi’s visit was cancelled.

Still need a RB though. Glad Morris is doing well, but I’m not taking my chances on a 180lb freshman at RB. Redshirt him and let him gain weight.
Sampson was pretty undersized the first year he contributed as well.

My primary concern is the 1st round draft pick WRs against our safeties. UGA attacked our Safeties very successfully by scheming 1on 1 situations in coverage. Especially my man Brooks who I love, he has been huge for us this season overall. Brooks took a beating vs UGA though...they found ways to isolate him versus WRs faster than him and TEs bigger and taller than him. Much of Becks 350 yards were against the Safeties, though in fairness even McCoy got burned in Athens and sat for a whole series...and hes probably the best CB in the SEC. Ohio States WRs are much better than UGAs...but their Oline isnt nearly as good. Will need a big game from our DTs matched up against a backup center and Pearce who will be matched up with a backup Left Tackle on the QBs blindside. I think Kelly goes mostly 3 step drops and tries to get the ball out on the edges quickly to their WRs because they arent gonna be able to run the ball on us consistently IMO. The safeties scare me though, and our CBs will be challenged all night to make tackles in space on the outside too. Thats their best chance to beat us. If we can make it a between the Tackles slugfest...we win and I think they know that. We will see I guess.

Georgia did a lot of that damage with their TEs. Thankfully Ohio State doesn't have anywhere near the same level of talent at that position. They'll be in a lot more 3/4 wr sets, which probably means more Boo / McMurray and less safety in the slot.

Not sure how you define "really contributed"

2021, first year with Heupel
Velus Jones Jr. - 62 receptions, 807 yards, 7 TDs (2nd in yards that year)
JaVonta Payton - 18 receptions, 413 yards, 6 TDs (3rd in yards that year)

2022
Bru McCoy - 52 receptions, 667 yards, 4 TDs (2nd in yards that year)

2023
Dont'e Thornton - 13 receptions, 224 yards, 1 TDs (only played in 9 games) - 4th in yards that year

2024
Brazzell - 28 receptions, 325 yards, 2 TDs (4th in yards this year)

This.

TEs Delp & Yurosek caught 9 of the 25 completions Beck had for 107 of the 347 passing yards, and the only 2TDs.
