Unlike the Hendon Hooker status, where no one knew he should of been the starter,Mike Matthews has reached Harrison Bailey status on this forum. Everyone knows he should have been the starter, except the coaching staff that watched him practice every day.
Given that they’ve been trying for a week to keep Matthews, this isn’t news. We already know they didn’t want to lose him. It’s pretty obvious that Webb and Nimrod weren’t surprise losses or concerns. And they didn’t do much to try to keep Squirrel. Spillman wasn’t on scholarship (which AP has mentioned) and was never going to play, much less start.Makes it sound like our coaches were caught with their pants down. Not what we've been told about them having a "strategy".
Still feels like there's a lot to the story we're not hearing. This offseason, thus far, has been strange. I get we needed to shed numbers to make room, but I doubt the plan was to clear the WR room to do that.

Matthews is the surprise. Which we all knew before this VQ report. Losing him means we go from needing a couple of depth pieces needing 3 dudes, at least one who can start on the outside.
Price didn’t say whether he was always a non-scholarship player or not. We really don’t have any way of knowing since the school doesn’t actually release that information. I think there were some assumptions made that he was. When he first came here, he was listed as a scholarship player. If that changed this past season, I'm unaware of it. But at one point he counted toward our numbers.
Given our reluctance to play younger kids, I wonder if we have someone in the incoming class who can be that outside guy and if the staff will play them? Any of our recruits have the speed to threaten a secondary or are they all a type of possession receiver?Given that they’ve been trying for a week to keep Matthews, this isn’t news. Jackson is fast. Dodson is fast and more quick twitch. Smith is a big strong WR who doesn’t have elite speed, but is fast enough. I’d compare him more to a Tillman type. Jackson is a well rounded, Meachem type. Welp. Could starting some/all of the freshmen be any worse than what we saw this year? With what we got from Thornton and Brazzell, I think I'd prefer to take my chances with youth to be honest.Jackson is fast. Dodson is fast and more quick twitch. Yes, just from what I gathered.Didn't White have a shoulder injury to the point he couldn't raise his arm overhead and he still played? Thought I'd heard something like that on a podcast or call in show. Was Matthews worse? Different?
Interesting. So you’re arguing that when Bank’s defense got boat raced by Mizzou in 2023 and South Carolina in 2022, it was because Mizzou and South Carolina had much better players than us.
Surely it couldn’t have had anything to do with our poor fundamentals, busted coverages, and making zero defensive adjustments.

I see people use this argument all the time. It's been widely talked about by people who went and watched practice during that time that Joe looked much better than Hendon when they both first got here.Unlike the Hendon Hooker status, where no one knew he should of been the starter,
EVEN The coaching staff that watched him practice every day!
