'25 Portal Thread

It really is a whole new dynamic that teams are having to figure out on the fly. Getting the right balance between paying guys enough to keep them and not wrecking the locker room (or fighting the expectation of pay-to-stay instead of pay-to-play) is really tough.

High control coaches like Kirby are having to learn to live in a new world. Saban retired instead of fooling with it.

Way too many variables in the NEW roster management world. The real value proposition on attaining and retaining a talented balanced roster has got to be maddening.

I am GUESSING there is a belief that better value will be available in the spring wave of portal entries after the competing pools of cash are minimized and very talented guys unhappily find themselves still second on the depth charts. Talent at prices that don’t tilt the room MAYBE. We are going to have to get more room as well.

At this point it’s gotta be Tate
I know the name keeps getting tossed out there, and I know the obvious connection to Tennessee from his original recruitment, but what gives anyone the slightest idea that Tate has any interest in entering the portal? Why would any WR from OSU enter the portal is the better question, especially ones receiving plenty of playing time, repa, and targets? Emeka Egbuka will be off to the NFL, opening up a bunch of targets for their #2 guy. Being the #2 WR in that offense is just as good as being the #1 in 95% of other offenses.

Has there been any rumors of him being unhappy at OSU?

Tonight in the Mt State vs N. Dakota State game the left tackle for Montana State is going to be a big target for lots of schools. Not sure if Vols are involved but he is a target that will soon be sought after by lots of schools. Number 72 - Connor Moore. He is an Ohio kid and Ohio State has shown interest. I hope we get involved. He can play both guard and tackle at a high level.

Hopes and dreams.

Need that RB. Total stud.

Honestly, I was just naming him because a lot of people have.

Not sure anyone else qualifies as a “splash” guy on any of the teams left….or at least not any that I could realistically seeing us get.

Not sure why everyone is getting all up in arms about UGA and their WR portal gets. They have done this the past couple years and honestly none of them have been that impressive.

Definite Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett vibes. Everyone was begging for them out of the portal and then lamented when they picked UGA. Couple years later they’ve been pretty meh.
