Every scholarship WR on the OSU roster is a former 4-5* recruit. I'd take any of them.
What is there to evaluate? @TrippieRedd just told us he's s beast on a video game. Throw a bag at him! He’s under evaluation
I think a good possession receiver is important in this offense. I think his best attributes have always been his size and strength. He’s not a YAC superhero, but he turned a lot of those 40yd lateral screens into gainers. He’s a great downfield blocker. He reads the qb and break off routes which is essential in this offense and more so with a mediocre pass blocking line. I agree with you that a hobbled version of him doesn’t get us there. Spots are too precious. If he gets back to close to a 100%, I’ve always liked what he brings to the room.Bru is a fine possession receiver. Not sure he ever was more than that, and post-injury, I highly doubt he's ever more than that. I kind of felt like Amari Jefferson might have been the direct replacement for Bru.
That's a good point. And BTW, just because you're not an insider or someone who has an inside source doesn't mean your opinion doesn't matter. I, personally, value most people's opinion on this forum regardless of who they are. There are only a few people on here who actually have sources or insider information. The rest of us are simply fans giving our opinions just like you and I. We may not agree with every person's opinion, but that's basically what the forum is. So don't undervalue yourself or your opinion.I've kept my opinion to myself, because it really isn't worth much, but the subtext I got from MM was he doesn't want to be the ONLY WR on the roster that's worth the spot.
Kids these days are smarter than they get credit for and know they need to be part of a team to get drafted. They know that having someone on the other side allows them to not get bracketed, pushed off their spots, and double-teamed throughout the game.
Bringing in Amari Jefferson and potentially Bru McCoy eases a lot of those concerns for him. He's got the chance to be #1, but those guys can absolutely take some of the heat off.
I would also say that, even though he spent a couple years at USC and transferred in, that dude has been the definition of the VFL term that frequently gets thrown around ever since he stepped on campus.I may be in the minority, but if we are just going to bring in a backup WR for depth, I’d much rather have Bru. Any receiver we bring in will need to learn the offense and there are no guarantees that they will be all in. With Bru, we have a guy that knows the offense, can help the younger guys, and he may not be what he was, but he plays his ass off every play.
I know spots are precious, but I feel like this team needs a few guys that know what it means to put on that jersey every week.
No guarantee we can get that from a short term rental.
So, if you had to put a % on the chance he comes back what would you have the percentage at?I think a good possession receiver is important in this offense. I think his best attributes have always been his size and strength. He’s not a YAC superhero, but he turned a lot of those 40yd lateral screens into gainers. He’s a great downfield blocker. You did not even understand the post to which you responded with all that. Middle of SEC was recruiting. We were not 3rd.middle of the SEC? We were top 3 this year.
you millenials need to stop being so needy demanding instant gratification.
its a gradual process to climb to the top. and our climb is steeper and longer than the schools you want to compare us to.
Day has been at OSU for a while and walked into a loaded roster. until this year was ALWAYS the also ran guy. top of the Big 10 but never could put them over the top. this year is still pending.
Smart was at Georgia for 5 or 6 years before he won the SEC. and he walked into a loaded roster, and one of the best recruiting set ups in the nation.
Bama has more talent but was down this year.
Sark at Texas took years to build to this point, with infinite money, and a better set up. and if you think our schedule was easy, don't look at Texas's.
Oregon has been stable for decades, has infinite money.
we are climbing. are we there yet? no. does that mean that we aren't making progress? No. every year our recruiting gets better. the incoming class is the best we have had yet. the last two have been more than 50% on that mythical Blue Chip Ratio standard.
the goal this year was always just to make it to the playoffs, but as soon as we did that it suddenly becomes not good enough because we played the best team in the nation first round.
No one started where we were and has made it as far as we have.
