'25 Portal Thread

Both Bru and Donte were 5*s coming out of HS, just like MM was a 5* coming out of HS. If MM had entered the portal, they would have downgraded him to a 4*.
I can't find anyone serious that had Thorton as a 5 star. everyone had him top 100, but not seeing any 5 star status.

on3 composite, and industry break down doesn't have him as a 5*. https://www.on3.com/db/rankings/industry-comparison/football/2021/?page=2

not 247 https://247sports.com/player/donte-thornton-jr-46056489/
not on3 Dont'e Thornton - Tennessee Volunteers - Wide Receiver
not rivals Donte Thornton Jr SENIOR Wide Receiver Tennessee

Just saw this posted from volreport about 17 hours ago. Picture of Bru, Nico, and MM getting some work done in California. Don't necessarily mean anything but it's definitely something to think about with the possibility of Bru coming back for another year. I think, IMHO, he would help our young receiver core tremendously. An excellent leader and someone to teach our young receivers the ropes. Especially since Pope isn't doing his job. #BringBruBack. Just another note, he could possibly get another year of eligibility due to him having to sit out a year when he first transferred because the rules were different then as opposed to now where you can transfer as much as you want with no penalty. So that would be his argument to the NCAA for an appeal.

I think this definitely means something. It means that Nico and Matthews are getting 1 on 1 work on their own time. QB to WR Timing isn't something that talent can make up for. If these guys continue to run routes as much as they can from now to September, that bond could be the difference in the offense next season

So, I've questioned the Tate talk and never understood where it came from.

But... @KingVFL has answered nearly every question asked of him in the past day in this thread with the exception of questions around one specific player.

Now, I'm not saying that means anything, necessarily, but consider my interest piqued.
Upvoted for the correct use of piqued.
Still don't think Tate's a realistic option. He grew up and OSU fans and Hartline is world's better than Pope.

I've kept my opinion to myself, because it really isn't worth much, but the subtext I got from MM was he doesn't want to be the ONLY WR on the roster that's worth the spot.

Kids these days are smarter than they get credit for and know they need to be part of a team to get drafted. They know that having someone on the other side allows them to not get bracketed, pushed off their spots, and double-teamed throughout the game.

Bringing in Amari Jefferson and potentially Bru McCoy eases a lot of those concerns for him. He's got the chance to be #1, but those guys can absolutely take some of the heat off.
