'25 Portal Thread

I don’t know that it’s so much we don’t have the money others do. I think schools that consistently put a bunch of guys in the league don’t have to pay as much. A top shelf OT might go to an NFL factory for 600,000 per year when any other school may have to pay closer to a mil. We get to where we are regularly putting a bunch of guys in the league again, and NIL $ may go a lot further.
We get to the next level, where we are in the playoffs regularly, like the teams you are referencing, and we will be in that position, I totally agree... until then, you are correct, that we will have to pay more than others... we don't seem to want to do that, so that leads me to believe we won't get there anytime soon.

If you make the playoffs, you should be able to compete with anyone you play against, not get embarrassed and look like you don't belong... you must have missed that game. Your take seems to be happy to just be in the playoffs/say you made it and don't care what happens... that's fine, but I'd like to get to the playoffs and actually compete for the championship, advance in the bracket, not do what we did and go home cold. So maybe your point looks dumb AF?

So did Oregon not belong in the playoff? They got smoked by OSU. Also beat them in the regular season.

Look forward to your reply.

Ohio State put it together at just right time, and finally living up to their potential with complete games on both sides of ball. Personally, I kept expecting us to put it together at some point in year and think we could of been much more competitive in playoffs. Unfortunately we just didnt, but we were close. Seems likewhen the OL jelled, the Defense wasnt as dominating. Really just making playoffs is good though and it takes some secret sauce to peak at right time.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the brief playoff appearance enough to just sit there and pretend like everything is peachy lol.
Everyone praying for an insider post is kind of entertaining. The sky is definitely falling. I love it when we all panic together.

LMAO, how did you interpret me saying we won't be in the playoffs anytime soon meaning or saying anything about Kiffin, Duke, Miami, ACC, SC, etc??? Wow, you must have been absent during reading comprehension at school...

We don't seem to be in any hurry or making it a priority IMO to fill talent gaps we clearly lost on the roster, while others are outbidding us and doing so on their own rosters. Other teams are replacing the talent they lost so that they can continue to improve their chances at a successful season of making the playoffs. We have not done a good job at replacing the talent we lost. Maybe we will at some point, but until then, IMO, we will struggle. Guess we'll see.
lol, so this is all based on an instant gratification mindset. love it.

our recruiting class was better in overall score and average ranking than it has been in the last decade plus. Maybe like the DBs last year its a good bit of addition by subtraction, with relatively little actual addition needed.

Seeing some of the comments on here, one would think we were NOT a playoff team this year.
The RF is becoming more and more like the FF which is damn sad.
You would think a 10-2 SEC team should be a lock to make the playoffs, but it took a Bama loss to Oklahoma and an Ole Miss loss to Florida for us to get in. If Bama and Ole Miss had won those games, we're most likely not in. It's wild to think. I'm not convinced that automatic qualifiers for conference champions should be a thing. Needs to be the 12 best teams.

good point.

Oregon was #9 in the transfer portal rankings last year.
SMU was #13
Arizona State was #17
Indiana was #19
Ohio State was #29
Tennessee was #36
ND was #38
Texas was #48
Ped State was #54
Georgia was #56
Boise was #85
Clemson was tied at #104

the 8 teams who brought in better classes than Oregon in the portal were: Colorado, Ole Miss, USCw, LSU, Auburn, FSU, Miami, Oklahoma.
Kentucky will bring in a better portal class this year; that place is a crap show. 😂

Portal ranking doesn’t prove crap. Class rank, retention and portal together matter though. Heupel and company have hit on most portal additions they have made though.

I think pass blocking will improve simply by subtraction
Atleast I’m hoping it does
We had some bad tackles playing
The young guys need to keep progressing and yes that means good oline coaching but also strength and conditioning. Maybe some change need to be made in that program to better prepare the oline also
I think John Campbell was pretty solid at LT in 2023. The move to RT did not seem to work out very well fr him this year, though.

He’s going to reply about the final score being closer. Probably didn’t watch the game though. It looked for a short second like Tennessee could come out of the half and make the OSU game interesting; Oregon never looked like they had a pulse that game. In Columbus and not on a neutral field after that Michigan game, Oregon is getting throttled by 50 pts.

Knee was crap this year. If we left him at LT, Nico is likely in the ICU. Heard was bad, Campbell was terrible also but he probably shouldn’t have been playing with his knee in the shape it was.

In the end, we didn't need the Alabama and Ole Miss losses to get in. We were ranked number 7 and the 9 seed. We would have likely gotten in over SMU even if Bama and Ole Miss would have been ahead of us.
