Basilio don’t know crap. But he’s right on them spending the majority on high school. Sanders is one of them; if we didn’t spend there we don’t land him and several people complain. Obviously though the lower ranked guys aren’t commanding a huge deal. Also had to pay Boo more.

I mean obviously there are some guys you would like to land out of the portal but it’s expensive and some are short time frames. They paid Heard high money and he got injured then played out of shape; so you had a lot going out for not much performance. Most of the money will continue to be focused on high school and retention of the guys already on the roster. The guys that did leave were encouraged to in order to get under 83; we’re probably still going to need to cut some for the portal additions we bring in.

Heard, Nico, Boo, Sampson (last year), McCoy, Matthews, Sanders, etc. Those guys didn’t come cheap or weren’t cheap to retain. Tennessee will pay fair market price most of the time and occasionally go above it at times. If you want to say we’ve misevaluated in some instances or possibly struggled to develop or add to some positions, I would agree although I do think it does need consideration of the situation the school was in early on.

Ohio State as I’ve said in the past wasn’t that far off from having a championship roster. Most of their money was invested in their home grown talent that they recruited and developed. They went out and spent major cash in the portal on a few spots bc they were only a few spots away. We’re just not in that situation yet.

Aren’t the majority of the teams in the semi final mostly home grown? Heck look at teams that didn’t even make it Ole Miss and FSU (lol) who make a living in the portal. High school recruiting > portal. Use portal to fill gaps but we shouldn’t be top 10 in the portal. Look at the teams there. Most of them aren’t serious programs

Most teams aren’t living in the portal at least weren’t up till this year. Georgia, Tennessee were some of the higher retention schools over the past few years. Don’t think that’s an accident that they made the playoffs.

Very concerning... Sounding more and more like we don't have the money most other schools are working with or it's being used in other sports... maybe at some point folks are gonna start waking up and put down the orange koolaid... most likely won't be until the middle of next season when other teams are flexing/surging with the talent they picked up/reloaded with, and we are still "developing", treading water, or even shifting backwards...
Biggest weakness will be our Oline, which will negatively affect our entire offense, looking vanilla again because Nico/WR's won't have the time to let plays develop. We may also see it at the LB position when they need to pick up a TE or someone else in pass coverage, where we were slow and confused/out of position most of the time...Losing Pili is bigger than most think. Hopefully we can mask our inexperience at RB and WR... Ross will need to show he's worth the money and the 5* status with replacing Pierce...we'll see soon enough this fall!

Oregon was #9 in the transfer portal rankings last year.
SMU was #13
Arizona State was #17
Indiana was #19
Ohio State was #29
Tennessee was #36
ND was #38
Texas was #48
Ped State was #54
Georgia was #56
Boise was #85
Clemson was tied at #104

the 8 teams who brought in better classes than Oregon in the portal were: Colorado, Ole Miss, USCw, LSU, Auburn, FSU, Miami, Oklahoma.

1. We made it, but clearly didn't look like we had any business being a playoff team based on our 1 game performance, I don't care who it was against or where.
2. At this rate, we will not sniff the playoff anytime soon.

I mean the reality is, if we win that Arkansas game it’s a completely different playoff bracket for us. Hell it’s a completely different playoff for Georgia as well bc Beck never plays in the SEC championship. Tennessee at a minimum plays a lesser team at home in the first round.

Tennessee can have the front end talent, I just don’t think they can have the depth that some teams will. I think as this goes on you’re not going to see many program with a lot of depth though.

Oregon - the #1 team in the country that had previously beaten OSU - also didn’t have any business being a playoff team either I suppose

lol based on what?

about half the teams that made it to the playoffs didn't look like they belonged. and its not like there was any strong contender that should have taken our place. Bama? maybe you are still crushing on Kiffin and liked what he did to Duke. Miami? Couldn't make it out of the ACC. South Carolina lost to Illinois they were supposed to be the team that "earned it" the most at the end.

If you make the playoffs, you should be able to compete with anyone you play against, not get embarrassed and look like you don't belong... you must have missed that game. Your take seems to be happy to just be in the playoffs/say you made it and don't care what happens... that's fine, but I'd like to get to the playoffs and actually compete for the championship, advance in the bracket, not do what we did and go home cold. So maybe your point looks dumb AF?

I don’t know that it’s so much we don’t have the money others do. I think schools that consistently put a bunch of guys in the league don’t have to pay as much. A top shelf OT might go to an NFL factory for 600,000 per year when any other school may have to pay closer to a mil. We get to where we are regularly putting a bunch of guys in the league again, and NIL $ may go a lot further.

LMAO, how did you interpret me saying we won't be in the playoffs anytime soon meaning or saying anything about Kiffin, Duke, Miami, ACC, SC, etc??? Wow, you must have been absent during reading comprehension at school...

We don't seem to be in any hurry or making it a priority IMO to fill talent gaps we clearly lost on the roster, while others are outbidding us and doing so on their own rosters. Other teams are replacing the talent they lost so that they can continue to improve their chances at a successful season of making the playoffs. We have not done a good job at replacing the talent we lost. Maybe we will at some point, but until then, IMO, we will struggle. Guess we'll see.
