'25 Portal Thread

I'd say, we'll go after 2 experience OL (guards), 1 safety, 1 tweener (ILB/Star), 2 DL, 1 edge, and another 5* receiver if the right one comes along.

We won't add, RB, QB, TE, K, P, C, or LS.
I could see RB. Probably lose Keith and Potentially seldon to portal . Not sure you want to roll into next year with just Bishop, Lewis, and the 2 FR

We are going to load up in the portal this year. It's so nice to be able to say "The Rich Get Richer" and be talking about us instead of our rivals for once.

What seems to be lost on some is that the portal is a 2 way street. We can have some of our kids head elsewhere, too. Are we willing to part with some of our current WR's and committed kids should we go after guys like Brown and Concepcion? Gonna say it again....we need one helluva OL haul way more than another WR. I'd also like a couple more studly DL, too.

Agreed on this. We need a big OL haul. Maybe during the offseason some of our receivers can learn to separate and get open. After they learn how to block.

Kentucky receiver Ja’Mori Maclin is rumored to be portal bound. Was a 1000 yard receiver at North Texas. We offered him out of the portal last year.

Was criminally underutilized at Kentucky but still lead the team in touchdowns. Had that insane td catch vs us.

I wouldn’t mind kicking the tires there.

I think this is the kind of player we go after.

Would of been here too.

If we have people hit the portal, that will shift our own portal needs, but just going off our team as it is, OL and DL are the biggest portal needs. I could see chasing a dynamic WR. Maybe a senior TE to shore up depth. Also think we may need to pursue safety help.

Mods delete if this isn't needed, or move to the NCAA Forum if preferred.

Figured we could have a thread to discuss all things portal, then as it becomes confirmed we have genuine interest in a particular player, etc, then we can seperate that into their own thread. But this hopefully will prevent a lot of uneccessary bumping of old threads in the Recruiting Forum, as well as making threads for every tom dick and harry that enters the portal despite us not pursuing.

Noteworthy guys to enter so far:

Micah Hudson, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Wide Receiver

I think we'll go after a receiver or two, but I imagine it'll be older guys. I do know Pople tried to get Hudson to visit here during his recruitment but don't think he ever visited.

On the one hand, I feel like we'd be fools not to kick the tires here. On the other hand, I really like Braylon Staley and don't want to see him head out. Should note that KC's younger brother recently committed to Kansas State so he might be headed there to play together.

We're set at corner and this young man has already tweeted he's basically going to the highest bidder. I just love seeing uga lose a blue chip kid so I included him.

We'll be going after OL. Doubt it'll be him as he hasn't been able to get on the field at Louisville. But I remember we were in on his initial recruitment so you never know.

Big bodied former 5 star receiver.

This thread will be interesting to monitor in the coming weeks.

I would add LB to the list. Need some experience back there. We have some young talent coming=ng in, but need some experience
LB would be more of a luxury imo it’s already a crowded room, I think OL/DL should take top priority, then a safety and wr, only really pursue a lb if a stud hits the portal that we like. Carter/Telander and Smith/Perry is a solid 4, +Burns, Spillman, Harmon, Anes, Gass (if he stays at lb instead of moving to edge) and Perlotte if we are able to flip him

LB has been one of our weakest positions since Pili was injured LB and Saftey probably cost us the Georgia. Georgia was , in the second half, able to match their receivers on our LBs and Safeties. Results, two TDs.

I just hope we go hard in the portal. We are returning a lot and with some key additions we could hit another level
I feel the same way. I hope the coaching staff approaches the portal the way they did last offseason. We were all so upset over not getting certain guys (Joly, Nolen to a lesser extent), and yet Heupel and company addressed our 6 biggest needs (CB, LT, WR, TE, S, DT) with high character team oriented guys who were all immediate contributors. Reminder of who these guys were:
-Lance Heard
-Jermod McCoy
-Chris Brazzell
-Holden Staes AND Miles Kitlesman
-Jakobe Thomas and Jalen McMurray
-Jaxon Moi

Then you remember other guys that we've gotten in the portal and you'll start to realize just how good these coaches are at evaluating portal talent/ character. Guys like:
Hendon Hooker
Omarr Norman Lott
Bru McCoy
Donte Thornton

I have full faith in these guys' ability to address needs of this team while ensuring there won't be a disturbance in the overall culture from these new players arrival

Part of me also thinks that this staff/ NIL collective is holding back from HS recruiting a little because they know just how close we are and want to prioritize bringing in gameday ready players instead of 18 year olds....

You’re Not wrong, but imo it’s a really crowded room rn, and DT/OL is a bigger priority currently.
