'25 Portal Thread

It’s interesting that those that claim to be some level of insider (or who have developed some level of insider status through their posts) have said that TN hasn’t been really active in the portal because Heupel likes his roster because the two teams I’m watching tonight in the Natl CHSP and a cpl other teams in the playoffs have notably better rosters than TN. Heupel isn’t recruiting even in the top 10 - granted I do think he has done very well with his roster - but to reach the next level, he is going to have to improve his program’s recruiting - upgrade his roster and staff.

And yes TN had a very good year this year making the 1st year of the new playoff. Caveat - but for the new playoff, TN doesn’t make the playoff - still a very good season regardless.

Has nothing to do with their position at all. NIL is tight already and we wouldn't have pushed as hard for Sanders if we had to pay Mauigoa what he wanted. Our desperation affected how much Spyre was willing to spend on Sanders. There's the logic.

Spyre is NOT determining how much it will spend on any player. NIL spending is dictated by Heupel and his staff and whatever budget there is…..The lion’s share of the NIL budget is coming from the big $$$ donors not the rank and file fans who have joined/sponsored the Volunteer Club and/or Spyre.

They’d rather complain about Spyre than donate to it.

Ohio State and Notre Dame wouldn’t have made the old playoff either.

Well, Notre Dame is in a bigger halftime deficit than we were, so there is that. I'm not sure how you are coming to the conclusion that both teams have a clearly better roster. Ohio State...sure, Notre Dame...very debatable. To your last comment, but for the new playoff, neither of the teams playing tonight would be in, either. In the four team format, it would have been Oregon vs Texas and Georgia vs Penn St.

My post made no reference positive or negative about donors or sponsors only that NIL spending is dictated by Heupel (obviously for football) and that the big money for NIL comes from big $$$ donors - not rank and file fans.

So not sure how your response has anything to do with my post.

Who are you referencing?

Obviously O State is far better than the Vols. From what I’ve seen from ND in the playoffs, they are far better as well. Agree to disagree on ND.

OSU beat our beloved Vols like a drum.
OSU in the playoffs has been a level higher than anyone.

Had we not had the misfortune to play them in the first round, we could possibly be the team they're playing tonight. If we had ND's draw, I think we would be the team they're playing right now. And they'd probably still win. They built a $21 million roster to win a national championship.

I would to love steal some players and staff members from the buckeyes.

We lost to the National Title winners who thrashed everyone else in playoff just like us or worse except Texas.

We were probably one of the top 5-6 teams in the country, we aren’t that far off. But that last step is the hardest!!

Need a couple more game changer additions this week and we will be ready to compete with a QB who will take a huge leap this offseason!

Let’s hope all the plans come to fruition.

I’m sorry but I just don’t agree with this after watching OSU completely run over every team in the CFP. Tell me honestly if how many of the other teams are we capable of beating? Notre Dame clearly beatable, Penn State same, SMU obviously, Boise State same, etc. I can go on. Honestly OSU, Texas, UGA, and maybe Oregon are the ones that look clearly better than us. We are not that far off from everybody else.

lol but for the new playoff, the two teams playing tonight in the NC game - including the one that has looked head and shoulders above every other team in the playoffs - don’t make the playoffs

These are facts that don’t fit the negative downer narrative and should be ignored.

Might have won A game but not two or even playing for a Naty.

Yeah OSU ponied up for a great roster and IT SHOWS.

Several posters here want Heupel and the big $$$ guys to pay up for OSU’s 3rd receiver (who is an excellent receiver) but not for a difference making RB, LB or even an OL - just interesting perspective for NIL spending and chat board posters (wrong, right or indifferent).

I think we beat UGA minus Beck.
