Obviously O State is far better than the Vols. From what I’ve seen from ND in the playoffs, they are far better as well. Agree to disagree on ND.
With Tennessee not playing anyone else besides Ohio State in the playoffs, I find it rather difficult to make that sort of judgment either way. That's just me, though. Ohio State has been far better than pretty much everyone they have played in the playoffs. It is difficult to determine if their current level of play is indicative of how good they are or if they are just on an incredibly hot run in the playoffs. If what they have shown in the playoffs is, in fact, how good they are, then they spectacularly underperformed during the regular season.

Josh and Swain were laughing about the Carnell Tate rumors earlier. Listened to them on the radio when I was out earlier. Smokescreen?
Probably laughing for good reason.

What about any of what we’ve watched play out this portal session leads you to believe otherwise?

I’m sure we want him.
I’m sure we’ll offer him.
I’d be shocked if we landed him.

I’m sorry but I just don’t agree with this after watching OSU completely run over every team in the CFP. Tell me honestly if how many of the other teams are we capable of beating? Notre Dame clearly beatable, Penn State same, SMU obviously, Boise State same, etc. I can go on. Honestly OSU, Texas, UGA, and maybe Oregon are the ones that look clearly better than us. We are not that far off from everybody else.
I would say Georgia didn't look better than us, at all, with Gunner Stockton at QB.

I mean, excuse me for saying Spyre. Do I need to say NIL Collective? I don't know why you took our conversation and focused on Spyre. I mean, I guess we can just ignore my actual point which is that losing out on other high profile Tackles may have led to donors/ NIL Collective/ Spyre/ Heupel to be more inclined to allocate funds to ensure we get Sanders after losing out on the other guys? Or do we just want to talk about how it works?

It is Heupel’s decision (and Barnes’ and Tony V’). Regardless, OSU went in big on NIL at 20 mill or so which was apparently in the top 2 in college football and it is clearly evident that it was money well spent.

However TN fell significantly behind that threshold at 11.6 million, good for the 15th highest NIL spending. So despite what many in the media and on this board are saying, TN isn’t overspending for players and apparently isn’t paying what several other programs are paying. Rank and file fans are not going to make up that monetary difference (9 million), nor should they be expected to.

OSU lost to Oregon, an excellent team, and Michigan.

I guess the KC Chiefs, the Bills, and the Eagles aren’t very good teams because of regular season losses.

TN Vols lost to a 7-6 Ark team so then TN really sucked as a football team. A football season isn’t played in a freaking vacuum.

You should write letters to all the Tennessee big money donors explaining to them why they should pour more money into the football coffers. Start with Big Jim Haslam.

Most won't be. We know better, Tennessee ain't ready to spend.
I'm sure we spend what we have. You can't spend what you don't have. Get pissy with the big money donors or the fans who can but don't support NIL. I recognize not everyone can. Other schools have deeper pockets because they have bigger money boosters.

personally I don't care too much about recruiting. its fun to follow. but the only grade I will ever care about is if Heupel wins. I am not going to keep Jimbo around for another year just because he is bringing in the highest rated class ever again.

Josh is getting results with his recruiting/team building. if we get better with 3*s I won't hold it against him for not getting 5*s. maybe you have a faster clock than I do, but for me the goal this year was making the playoffs, we did that. sure we got blown out and that sucks, but guess what, thats the goal now moving forward because we made the last one. Making the playoffs and looking good, hopefully winning. I am not going to go back and retroactively change my expectations for the year after the fact.
Maybe you’re misinterpreting what I said. I think he’s ahead of schedule and doing very well. Better than we’ve had in a couple of decades. To take the next step we have to recruit better.!
