Have you already forgotten what we did with Cedric Tillman in 2021 and Jalin Hyatt in 2022?Do we even have a #1 option? We spread the ball around. We use X, Y, and Z, not WR1, WR2, and WR3.
If it is Tate, which I'm still in see it to believe it mode, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Brazzell or possibly Staley portal out in the Spring. So the WR room could still be thin.
Everyone wants to play, and there's only one ball.
So I'm a nobody, but a friend of mine is from Columbus and his dad is a very successful land developer there. He plays golf at The Golf Club with a lot of the bigger OSU donors. He said that one of those guys said that they aren't even close to matching last season's NIL. He said it's close to $10 million less than 2024. That part is a little hard to believe and obviously that's probably going to change with them winning the NC, but it's the only piece of insider info I've ever gotten so i figured I'd share itNow the question becomes does OSU have the money to pay Tate along with everyone else they have…
Smith is projected at a 3mil+++ NIL.
This makes no sense. I'd take Tate in a heartbeat, but OSU has put WR after WR into the NFL. Didn't matter if they were WR1 or WR2 or even WR3, OSU has put WRs in the league. If there are serious questions about QB, I could see that. If Hartline is leaving, I could see that. But being upset about playing next to Smith? If anything, that opens up more targets for him because Smith will draw the double.Per AP, people "in the know," meaning people who are close to him and know the situation, are saying that Carnell Tate is not happy with being the #2 guy. And a lot of athletes share this same perspective. He is going to be in the shadows of Jeremiah Smith his entire career at OSU. So he seems to be looking for a #1 spot which is why he will entertain coming here, imo. I truly believe we have the money to spend for him if it does come down to a bidding war, but I don't think that's the main issue here. I'm sure $ is involved, but being "The Guy" is the biggest factor. Sure, OSU is gonna try to do whatever they can to keep him, but there's not much arguing that Jeremiah Smith IS and WILL BE the #1 during Tate's playing days at Ohio State.
I think you underestimate the egos top receivers haveThis makes no sense. I'd take Tate in a heartbeat, but OSU has put WR after WR into the NFL. I didn't even consider this.... weren't there rumors of staff changes (Pope) being part of what kept Matthews here? This makes no sense. So you're of the opinion we're going to bring in Tate, feed him the ball, and watch MM and other WRs transfer out?Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you're suggesting that we don't game plan ways to get great WRs the ball and just treat all WRs on the field the same. If that's what you're saying, I recommend you rewatch the 2022 season with Hyatt.
I'm of the opinion that if we bring in Tate, he will have a 1200-yard season and be in the Biletnikoff conversation. Mike Matthews would be another top target in 2025 and have 700-800 yards before beginning his own Biletnikoff campaign in 2026.So you're of the opinion we're going to bring in Tate, feed him the ball, and watch MM and other WRs transfer out?
Would this mean no Boo Playing part time on offense? This is very believable. They are both great players. Tate would be the #1 guy here and a dependable target. MM would also have an opportunity to shine. Jeremiah Smith is probably a top 3 pick when his time comes and if he's healthy could be the #1 pick. Those guys don't come around often.
Been saying this about Hartline for awhile. Make him a huge offer. Give him the OC/WR coach position. Make him the highest paid OC. Elite recruiter and developer of talent. I know what some will say “lol he ain’t leaving OSU.” What’s wrong with trying to get him? Oh and in case we all forget, Saban wasn’t taking the Bama job remember? Money talks.I’d take Hartline in a heartbeat, maybe get him and Tate as a package deal. I can wish lol
It's curious to me, when Hartline turned down HC overtures this season, the fan base was pretty adamant that Day was not the answer. Now that Day has reversed that fortune and has a title, he isn't going anywhere.Been saying this about Hartline for awhile. Make him a huge offer. Give him the OC/WR coach position. If only we knew those numbers were true. If you truly think UVA is spending the same as UT, then there isn't much else to discuss. Those rankings were debunked when the list came out.It is Heupel’s decision (and Barnes’ and Tony V’). Regardless, OSU went in big on NIL at 20 mill or so which was apparently in the top 2 in college football and it is clearly evident that it was money well spent.
However TN fell significantly behind that threshold at 11.6 million, good for the 15th highest NIL spending. So despite what many in the media and on this board are saying, TN isn’t overspending for players and apparently isn’t paying what several other programs are paying. Rank and file fans are not going to make up that monetary difference (9 million), nor should they be expected to.
Yes sir, but million dollar question is would Heupel do thatBeen saying this about Hartline for awhile. Make him a huge offer. Give him the OC/WR coach position. Make him the highest paid OC.
