TIFWIW...read it again...TIFWIW...but Basilio is saying that Sampson is considering a return but wants big $. Also says Boo Carter's "team" has made it clear he will be expensive to retain. Also said Jermod McCoy will likely be looking for a bigger payday.

I would say all three of those are likely true. Boo and his camp undoubtedly have been getting calls and texts for weeks about how much such and such school will pay Boo if he transfers there given how well he’s played as a freshman.

Tricky situation to navigate because you know some guys are going to threaten transferring as a bluff to see if you’ll overpay them while others, like Boo and other standouts on the team, likely already have big offers from other schools on the table.

I'm not saying Basilio is wrong, but his show is like 3 hours long 5 days a week. He has to throw random stuff out to keep people listening and interested.

Remember...he was the one saying just a couple of weeks ago that there was a 90% chance that David Sanders was flipping.

I’m not saying he’s wrong either but talked to McCoy’s dad at a game. Seems like he loves it here. I do imagine he will get some NIL money thrown his way, likely Boo will as well. I just don’t see either going anywhere. Maybe I’m wrong though.

You don't let McCoy leave. He will likely be a 1st rd draft pick and will pay dividends to have in the program. I think you pay Boo as well. But Boo is a instate guy who loves Tennessee. I doubt he leaves to the highest bidder. Just make a competitive offer. If he cares too much about the money, maybe he isn't the program type player you thought he was.

As for Sampson. I would love for him to stay another year, but it doesn't make sense for a RB to delay his clock toward a 2nd NFL contract. We would have to pay him more than the 1.5 mil+ he would likely get at minimum for being a 2nd rd pick next year playing in the NFL. I doubt that happens. We won't be able to fully replace him next year, but I expect Nico to shoulder more of the load, particularly in the Redzone next season.

I'm seeing Sampson grade as 3rd to 5th rd pick. Idk how much that pays.

Think we hold onto McCoy because he’s doing so well here and because his dad and Willie Mo have had a good relationship for many years.

Boo I’ve always deep down thought had the potential of being a flight risk. I hope we hold onto him. He’s a phenomenal talent. Just becomes a numbers game. Who is worth how much. At some point we won’t be able to pay everybody what they want. That was the case with Jalen Smith. Wasn’t worth what he was asking for. Will that be the case with Boo? I wouldn’t think so. I figure we’ll do what we gotta do to get him taken care of, but you never know for sure because it’s not public knowledge how much a particular player asks for.

IIRC, he was one of the guys who was able to get NIL before arriving on the mizzou campus due to the law passed in the state of Missouri. If so, maybe he got his McDonald’s bag while still in HS which was the main reason for signing with Dorkwitz. Now he’s ready to go play in a better program.
