'25 Portal Thread

As @TrippieRedd mentioned in another thread, there are some great playmakers out there in the portal. And we could use a few on both sides of the ball.

I just wished the Vols would start shopping at Neiman Marcus and stay out of the Dollar Tree.
We're going to have to start cutting loose of some NIL funds to get better, faster. That's all there is to it.
Feels like that with our position coaches. Just promote from within.

I already knew about McCot and Lott.

Suggs is a nobody. Again, he left LSU because he couldn’t cut it.
You knew about Omar Norman Lott before we had interest... A guy with 4 sacks and 7 TFLs in 3 years at ASU....

I'm calling BS on that.

2.5 sacks and 3 TFLs as an interior lineman for an SEC program is a pretty solid season. I don't know where you're getting the idea that he "couldn't cut it." Could Hendon Hooker not cut it at VT?

Tillman got hurt. Hyatt doesn’t have that type of season with a healthy Tillman
Hyatt probably does lose some production, but Hyatt was already balling out before Tillman got hurt. When Tillman got hurt in the 2nd Q vs Akron, Hyatt already had 15 catches, 150 yards, and 2 TDs on the season. Hyatt would have continued to ball out regardless.

Good position coaches who have recruited for 4 years shouldn’t have to portal 2 starters to make their position goos
Oline development is sadly bad apparently and our DC who coaches safeties needs to recruit better also
Hopefully the lb speed issue we have was partly fixed this recruiting class

Inge has been here one season, he inherited the LB room we had.

Still he helped Telander, Carter, Perry and Smith look far better than they had previously. Only the two teams with clear talent advantages over us were able to expose them in the passing game.

Christian Gass - 23rd rated LB in his class
Jadon Perlotte - 29th rated LB in his class
Jaedon Harmon - 30th rated LB in his class

Those are all Inge recruits and all 3 are higher rated LB prospects than the guys BJM brought in except for Carter. So wanna see how that LB group looks with Inge having kids he wanted before completely bailing on him after one year.

Spillman was also highly rated.

He was a consensus 4* as a recruit.
seldon was hyped up as the next Deebo Samuel hybrid type player, but we never used him the way we should’ve, that paired with him being injured most of the year. I really hope we try working something up for him to stay

31st highest rated LB in his class and a BJM recruit (even though Inge kept him in class)

Burns is also a high rated LB we didn't see any this year, so I think the LB room on paper has some talent.

I think Gass is projected as an edge LB though.

But Perlotte is 6'3" 200+ and can play safety so I think he could be a legit coverage LB to put beside our other guys that seem better as center field run stoppers.

LB room I like the direction they're going...and I honestly feel like we put too many eggs in the Pili basket during off-season and that's part of the issue.

Yes
I wasn’t implying to fire INGE I was more saying it’s an improvement and imo he’s definitely a better coach then what we had at that position

Spillman was a consensus 4*. That’s highly ranked. Perlotte is a 4* by 2 services and a 3* by 2 services. Gass is a 4* by 3 services and a 3* by 1 service.

I think Harmon will be better than all of them though.

This is all very frustrating. The tone is understandably down. I just didn't have the time to wade through so these posts.........

What are the most recent developments in the portal for us? Any good news?

In this video, SportsTalkJ shows a chart of rankings from #1 to #16 in money spent on their respective football teams.
Tennessee is at #16 at $11+ million, around half of what the top spenders are paying.

According to On3's ranking of NIL collectives, Spyre is at #2 behind Ohio State's 1870 Society & Project.

Those numbers aren’t accurate

Nothing except we’re trying to get Thompson and Suggs.

I can’t imagine we’re not gonna try and land a dynamic receiver.

We have issues at OL, receiver, issues at safety, linebacker and pass rusher.

The gap between us and the better programs was just laid to bear for the world to see.........I don't understand the mentality of not going after players that improve the program.

Another glaring issue for us was and is depth. We don't have it......... Hopefully the slow play is due to expected staff turnover and to let guys get the players they think they need ...... But it doesn't seem likely at this point.

I understand not acting in a brash manner and letting emotion dictate staffing decisions but there are some glaring deficiencies with this staff that look like they need to be addressed.

Never said Spillman wasn't highly ranked, just that Carter is the only BJM recruit that was higher rated at LB on 247 than the Inge recruits.

Oh he definitely still would have had a good season. They would have been the best duo in the country. But Tillman was the #1 WR on the team and he didn’t “fall down draft boards” because Hyatt was better than him
