Pre-season Predictions

probably more to do with CP, Hunter, Bray leaving and not being replaced by equals and still having a ridiculous SEC schedule than anything else.

Agree we lost some talent, but it's not like we have a team full of scrubs.I think even Doolander could win more than 4 games. Errr scratch that last comment.:)

A very big part of my prediction. I think Jones is a very good coach but his teams tend to struggle in his first year. He has a system that is proven and he will teach to the system more than wins and losses. A very good approach in my opinion.

He is taking over a team of kids that have been under coached, under motivated, and have been playing different systems almost yearly. Now those kids have yet another head coach, new coordinators again, a new philosophy, and new terminologies. Tough hand to be dealt.

Then the schedule. Not only is it a murderers row, Florida has a bye before Ut, Vandy has UK, and three teams have Arky the week before. I'm not sure Arky and UK would be favored by a TD over BYE this year. Mizzou has their own murderers row leading up to the UT game (VU, UGA, UF, USC) but it will be back to back road games for the Vols and the third straight home game for Mizzou.

Updated.

About a week and a half left to put in your predictions. REMEMBER! If you make a change to your previous prediction, QUOTE your original post and indicate the change(s).

I think 5-7 is a distinct possibility being such a young team with few reserves. Eventually the injury bug will hit a key position or two and we will struggle. What starting lineup you start the season with is rarely the starting lineup you have at the end of the year.

Frankly we have a much better coaching situation than 2012, but won't have a better record in 2013. Last year's team would have done less than 5-7 with this year's schedule.

This will be a well coached team that many teams will overlook. But they won't after this year.

10-2 regular season. Unfortunately, y'all may think I'm crazy. But there will be upsets this year. Also, in my prediction, UGA goes undefeated in SEC play, loses in SEC championship again. BAMA takes the cake for SEC again, plays Ohio State in National championship, and loses. End of Saban and rise of Meyer, end of SEC dominance, but only for a year.

UT goes bowling in Cotton Bowl against whoever they throw at us. UT wins and gathers enough momentum to finish with a top 3 recruiting class, and paves the way for a loss in SEC championship in 2014, but is followed by SEC title run in 2015 for 3 straight years, with 3 national championships and 2 Heisman winners.

Butch Jones gets it.

Nice GoDucks! Given your optimistic prediction here, I'll let yours count :). Like I told someone else, if you were to win, I'd buy you tickets for an Oregon game, given team and location and all.

Thanks ......

Honestly, I think those predictions are well within UTs capabilities this year. I'll be curious to see how the shake out come December. This is a thread that should be pinned.

Updated.

I'd love to get this pinned... get some more visibility on it, and I just think it'll be fun.

Plus, I don't see why anyone would not want to win a free pair of tickets.

47 contestants so far :dance2:

If last year team had a coach and had stuck with a 4-3 D we would have won the East easily. With our O and a D that would have been ranked between 25-30, these games outcomes woul have changed: Florida = Blowout win, Georgia = win, South Carolina = win, Miss State = blowout win, Missouri = blowout win, Vanderbilt = blowout win. In other words we would have gone into the SECCG in a rematch against Bama for a shot at the Title game.

Last years team was obscenely talented and all that talent was squandered by a godawful coach.

Teams with entirely new staffs, new concepts, new philosophies, typically have at least a season of transition before they start moving in the correct direction, if they ever move. We've seen this at UF with Meyers, at UA with Saban, and elsewhere. Especially when the roster depth and production on the field the previous season was poor. IMO The Vols will experience such a transition this season. Doesn't mean that they aren't moving in the correct direction, however...
