How exactly do you know for sure that Ferguson will be better than Dobbs? I mean I have been wondering if that may be the case but I've seen no real evidence of this.

What do you know that I don't!? lol

Everyone knows the backup quarterback is allways the best.

I said Dobbs because he has tried to improve his skill set this off season....not sure how much improvement he will get from it but an A for effort. None of this matters anyway....because only Butch knows

I remember watching a panel on ESPN rating quarterbacks in the 2013 class and they said Riley Ferguson was one to watch. I hope they were right.

I suspect it is Worley. He's got more talent than most here give him credit for but more importantly the team was improving behind him. When healthy, he led the team with a very good performance to give Jones his first ever win over a ranked opponent.

Worley is the better choice also because if one of the others is the starter then the other two likely transfer between now and August leaving UT with only two QB's. The starter would be a question mark. One injury would be catastrophic.

Was there not a quote from coach jones that stated had ferguson not had his injury at the time dobbs started, that Riley would have had the QB position over dobbs.

Let the orange and white game show the true potential for QB this year.

There is still a lot of practice time left

This is Worley's last hurrah ..it wont even be close...I can see people exclaiming him to be the next coming of QB genius....you'll see ....you may flame and laugh in three... two... one

I'll be the last one laughing and saying I told ya so....there's a big difference in a Senior and a red shirt freshman ....ask Cromp Daddy... ask Eric Ainge shall I go on?

Matt Simms says hello.

I am going to go with Worley. Senior who has looked the best on the field so far. With new O line they need a leader and his experience and maturity helps him their. I hope that either Dobbs or Ferguson passes him up in practice and claims the out rite. But unless Dobbs has made a big jump it still looks like Worley. I can't really even comment on Ferguson as we have not seen him on the field.

Why would it not be Worley. The best two games of the year were with him at QB. He is not going to wow everyone but he is a steady hand at the wheel. I think he will be better this year as well.

I've seen a lot of talk about who will be the starting QB in a number of threads. Let's see what everyone thinks as of now.

Worley. Coaches place a premium on experience. Plus, he was just getting to understand the offense and the staff was just getting to understand how best to use him when he got hurt.

I expect they will click very well this fall.. considering the rest of the handicaps they are dealing with

Whoever it is, I hope they dont keep running that stupid read option/end around, because its not gonna matter if they do! WAY too predictable IMO.

Worley gives our best chance to win!

Unless one of the others Dobbs, Ferguson or Peterman just show out!

The fact that Ferguson was ahead of Dobbs on the depth chart last year until he was injured might be a good place to start.

Here's why:

1. Dobbs has a faster release for avoiding negative yards.
2. Dobbs can run faster and isn't afraid to do so.
3. Dobbs can avoid hits in collapsing pockets better.
4. Collapsing pockets will be often with the all new OL.
5. Dobb's bigger and stronger now.
6. Dobb has greater arm strength.
7. Last year's frosh jitters are gone.
8. He's turning into a leader. If he can get practically lead the whole campus out for a snowball fight, then lead them off to the stadium to continue it, he can lead his team.

What must happen: Dobb has to cease throwing into double coverage to avoid interceptions. He needs to throw his ball so it leads the receiver. But in doing so be field aware of where DBs are so as to cut down on interceptions. His receivers will be better so watch for big time improvement.

One of the biggest reasons despite liking Worley a lot, a whole lot, is a picture I can no longer find nor forget. That was a head on shot of Worley running the ball. His face was full of horror. He literally looked like he was running for his life from monster or maybe a tyrannosaurus rex or an allosaurus. That told me why we hardly ever saw him running during read options. That plus repeatedly seeing wide open real estate gift wrapped for him by defenses and him not taking it. Defenses seemed to know they could do this because he wasn't going anywhere. So just close off his passing options and key on the RBs. You won't get that with Josh. Josh will make you pay if you give him 8 or more yards of unguarded space. With what will be a leaky OL, Dobbs is a proven mobile QB which will be sorely needed until that OL gets better. Worley will just set a record for being sacked, much as I HATE saying that.

So was Peterman and we saw what happened, right?
Seriously, being ahead doesn't anoint a QB as better. It's on field play that does that. I believe two guys were ahead of the Volgod Peyton until that UCLA game. But look who ended with the job. Point? You, me, no one on VN knows who is the better QB. We just have biased speculation as a basis for our preferences, claims or beliefs. But, hey, it just wouldn't be VN if we didn't have that. Rock on, jarnol32!!!!!

This sounds great to me. I have no doubt Worley can sling the ball around some for us this fall. The only issue I have with him is the read. Absolutely everyone knows Worley is going to hand it off, so it's pointless to run it with him. If he gets the courage to keep it a few times, and keep the D guessing, he could have a pretty good season.

The Worleybird is gonna swoop down and rip the heart outta all those defenses!

Peterman shocks the world and wins the job. Everyone on VN is confused after he wins the hiesman..... then he wakes up from his dream

All I know is that conventional wisdom tells you that no coach wants to put himself in a situation where he's having to break in a new QB in the 3rd year of his contract. Personally I believe this staff will give either Ferguson or Dobbs every possible opportunity to earn the starting job. If Worley ends up starting then it's because other 2 guys aren't anywhere near living up to their hype.
