Yeah i know right? Who wants a QB who has chemistry with the offense and led the team to a win over a top 11 team? We should have a QB who either has never proved himself or one that started 4 games and looked less than stellar.
so we need a mobile QB like Ferguson but you have no clue if he is mobile or not? Classic
jones said that dobbs is the qb untill its take from him. hint untill not if it gets takenn. i do think it will end up being fergy and dobbs plats wr.
Worley led us to a win gainst USCeand deserves credit for managing that game and protecting the ball, but saying he "had chemistry" with the offense is a bit of a stretch. Almost all of the truly ugly plays from our 2013 season happened with Worley throwing the ball. He was good for at least 1-2 throws a game that were completely uncatchable for anybody on the field.
That amazing catch North had against WKU could have been a TD if it hadn't been under thrown by 10 yards. North was as wide open as a receiver can get.
I'll give Worley the benefit of the doubt when it comes to protecting the ball better than the other QBs we've seen play (though if you remove the AP game from his stats, his TD/TO ratio is 1:1 which isn't "good," but was the best we saw). But saying he had chemistry with the offense is a pretty big stretch. I don't have the numbers to back me up, but I think we may have averaged more explosive plays per snap with Dobbs under center (though he was much more prone to turnovers and this can largely be attributed to Dobbs running ability).
I really don't care who wins the job as long as thy can get the ball to our playmakers and don't play loose with the football (though I'd be lying if I said that an unknown, Ferguson, coming out of nowhere and winning the job wouldn't tickle me to death). We'll most likely see at least 2 QBs play this season anyway. I just hope someone clinches the job by the end of spring so our offense can have some of the chemistry we lacked (from all QBs) last season and be ready for Utah State.
I'm not sure that a competition that goes until week 1 would be good to have again this season.
The poster you quoted is a Vol dreamer. You see them on this forum a lot. They call Ferguson Ferbs or Fergy like they were his roommate in the dorm. They know, (probably through telepathy or something), that he is the greatest player to ever sport an orange jockstrap and they will not be dissuaded from their beliefs. Butch understands and knows however, and the fantasizer's hopes, like strong flatulence, will disperse leaving many unhappy, unsmiley faces.
We can look at it in one of two different ways.
(1) Dobbs nor Peterman are the answer! Worley has probably maxed out on his growth as a q.b.! So, to prepare for the future, put Ferguson in and let him win the job.
(2) Let Ferguson win the job, but he is underwhelming, so this leaves the door open for Gentry, from N.M. to come win the job as a true freshman. And he will be the future of the team at q.b.
Play Ferguson because Dobbs nor Peterman will play well enough to win the job. Play Ferguson over Worley because Worley is 2014; whereas, Ferguson is likely the distant future of the program at q.b.
So Worley gets no credit for being on the "bleeding edge" with a bunch of WR's who knew absolutely NOTHING about what they were doing?
The simple fact is that early in the season Worley nor the coaches trusted the young WR's to be where they were supposed to be on a consistent basis. They dropped passes. They failed to get off coverage. They failed to create separation.
I suspect Worley will start. He has more talent than many of you want to give him credit for, can obviously manage the O well, and.... the team was just better when he was in there. That last point is what seems to have won him the job to start with.
Honestly i see Worley starting with either Dobbs or Ferg at #2. Worley has a ton of experiance at his belt. Yes Dobbs has experience to but due to how young he is i dont see him starting over Worley. I honestly see Peterman Transferring schools.
I will say that it will be a little disappointing if one of Dobbs or Ferguson isn't able to push Worley before the season begins though. They were both highly touted prospects and and one would hope that they'd be able to beat out a senior game manager with little to no future playing in Sundays if they're ever going to be a high level SEC QB.
That's not to say Worley is terrible or anything. He just has a lower ceiling than the younger guys (should have).
I think I voted for Worley but I honestly hope someone else gets the starting QB role mainly because if Worley starts we will have this same problem/thread again in 2015 which should be our break out year. If Dobbs or Fergie starts this year they will have much needed experience for '15.
Not a knock against Worley in any way, just looking to the future.
