Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

$4.9 billion is a bit misleading, and real sales price hasn’t been disclosed, at least from what I’ve read. Part of that total is money that Boehly had committed to renovate and build upon Stanford Bridge. Still though, most reports say the deal topped $3.5 billion in just club value 😳

Luton, needing a win to guarantee a spot in the promotion playoffs just scored from one of the most shocking lapses in concentration I can ever remember.

That is crazy.

Just got done listening to coverage of League 2, Bristol Rovers had no chance of goal difference to get automatic promotion, won their match 7-0 and are going up.

I see in addition to Gabriel Jesus, Arsenal is looking at Raheem Sterling too. Unless they are vetting both for one spot, idk why you would bring in both. Some experience and depth would be good for a young Arsenal team but why would Sterling want to move to a team with so much young and skilled forwards? I wouldn’t start him over Saka. Im not sure id even start him over Martinelli. Both of those young players have been playing well and the cohesion they have in the attack has been the real bright spot for Arsenal this year I thought. Real need for that front is a goal scoring striker.

Not a fan of getting players from the other top 6 epl teams after Willian(Chelsea) last year.

Strange what happened with him. The Arsenal saga was one thing but now there’s reports that he’s having issues back in Brazil playing for Carinthians too.

Not sure I like it changing to one large league vs groups.

Certainly part of the expanded format.

I just don’t understand how they’re going to seed and create match ups to keep the one table even. If Chelsea plays Bayern Munich, Man City and Real Madrid and then 5 random smaller clubs… but PSG plays 7 random smaller clubs and 1 big club.. it’s much easier for them to get top 8 and an advantage without going to 1st knockouts.

The 4 pots and seeding used to create the group stage was just easy and fair. I sure UEFA will create a process that keeps it even but I just don’t know how that will be yet.

What I don’t like about the new format change is it takes away from the excitement of trying to make the top 4.

It’d be a safe bet that EPL 5th place team will be in the fray consistently, but the rules are two extra spots for the leagues in UEFA. For example, if it was this year, it would be England and Holland. They base it off the “countries with the best performing clubs in Europe that season.” Their words. So yeah, some years the 5th place EPL team will get in but not every year.
