A line I've used before and I'll say it again...

EPL teams make college football programs look like they have the patience of a saint. I know Chelsea is under new ownership, but still. This is like a new CFB coach coming in and having a very solid first season, say top 15 with a NY6 bowl win, then putting together a dynamite recruiting class, then being fired after a sluggish start to season #2.

Close comparison. Only caveats I would put in that is this isn’t season #2 and it’s also like the age old comment in CFB: Every AD in college wants to hire their coach. I also don’t know if I’d call this transfer window dynamite.. some good players, but big needs left unfixed.

Still, doesn’t mean he should have been sacked. There is some reports that Tuchel had quietly considered a break from management before today. He’s had a pretty tumultuous last 18 months between getting divorced and all of the sanction stuff last season. He barely got any holiday this summer as he was working extra due to lack of a Director of Football and executive team.

Feel so bad for him. Hate it came to this.

@Nash_Vol97 the transition may not be too hard for the club tactically. Potter usually uses a back 3. 1 thing that sets him apart is his tactical flexibility. They may play a 3-5-2 in the first half but will switch to a 3 box 3 in the second. They may press incredibly high out of a 3-2-3-2 then once the opposition gets the ball to midfield they compact down into a 3-3-3-1. Defensively they are sound and solid, will concede a lot less than they have been of late. Expect lots of crosses and shots from the midfielders, they will interchange and rotate often. Cucrella of course will benefit as should Sterling. Sterling could take the Trossard spot to another level, lots of shots and crosses. I selfishly hope Pulisic earns his favor, Potter is hugely psychological due to his background and education and cold work wonders with Pulisic if the cards align. I may write up a little more in depth about him when it becomes official. He relies more on positioning of players and space creation than he does a ‘style or formation’

TLDR: if it happens, I will be finding a spot in my FPL team for a Chelsea defender or Midfilder. The returns may not be instant, but they will come. Go look at the most transferred in, 2 of the top 6 are Brighton Midfielders for a reason.

That’s crazy. At least the Prem requires some daylight. Of course if this benefits USA, f yeah!
I think we should do some sort of World Cup pickem or something when the time comes. I am sure there will be a World Cup thread with a few drive by posters that may participate, but I want to at least make sure the regulars have something lined up.

Agreed

Chaos and Trophies, Chelsea FC.

In no way am I happy about this. I felt something was Rotten (wow I fat fingered while spelling rotten and it autocorrected to Tottenham. Touché autocorrect 😂) but it still is majorly premature. He deserved time to right the ship. Anyways, at least when we sack managers we ALWAYS win a trophy. 😬

Thanks for this! I had done some research last night about his style and the way he likes to approach the game. The good news is it’s not a dramatic tactical difference so he can hopefully shape up quicker than if we were switching to a back 4 or something of that nature. Some of the ideas are very similar to Tuchel in terms of the aggressive, wide attacking wingbacks but also vastly different in that Tuchel didnt really place a priority on midfielders getting into attack and taking shots from outside of the box. I think this could be the point where maybe Mount moves into more of that CAM role than a wing role. Idk how much this really helps Pulisic tactically but should be a much needed refresh for him. Potter seems to chop and change lineups a lot, or at least did last year from the article I read, so maybe that alone helps Pulisic get more game time.

Idk, I’m still sad we sacked Tuchel and wish he could have just been left alone to coach but it seems that Boehly and company want a more collaborative model. Potter certainly fits the bill with that. We will see how it goes!

Also, I had JUST signed a Brighton midfielder.. guess I’m going to sell him now 😬

Sources have told ESPN that Chelsea also intend to appoint a sporting director to oversee the club's transfer policy. Boehly stepped up in an interim role following the departures of lead negotiator and director Marina Granovskaia and technical and performance adviser Petr Cech.
