Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

It’s very arrogant that American owners are the ones that are trying to make these changes.

It’s arrogant to make an off the cuff comment about how to preserve English football pyramid?

I get it though, this is how the media works. Throw out a sound bite or a quote without any context of the conversation and then mock it.. even if the way it’s presented isn’t 100% accurate.

Honestly, what’s even more arrogant, is mocking a guy like all of English media has for making a comment about an “idea” that could raise money to save their tradition just because the idea isn’t attainable and because it came from an American. This should have been another conversation starter about how to save the lower leagues of the tournament and instead the media has turned it into a burning the American at the stake.

THIS I am fine with mocking Boehly about though. Like dude, Salah and KDB did NOT come from the Chelsea Academy 😂😂

This is a fair take on it all

Edit: link doesn’t give much info. It’s an article from an English football historian about how more people should consult historians on ideas as most ideas have occurred before already.

I guess I was referring more to the failed Super League attempt.

I still don’t understand what’s going on here. I just said I prefer to watch 1 over the other, not that they are better or anything. Wasn’t my intent to open a debate of 1 vs the other.
I guess what I'm saying is that until last year Mitrovic has been criticized for his lack of performing on the top flight, his weight, his work ethic, and attitude. Last year during relegation he seemed to dedicate more to his fitness. That has carried over to this year. I like Mitrovic. He's solid. He's off to a good start. I just don't see how anyone would "prefer" to watch him over Haaland. Haaland is a superstar. Just so I know, if Haaland was on Wolves, are you ponying up money to purchase a ticket to watch Fulham or Wolverhampton?

It would never happen. What’s funny, is if you listen to the whole interview that he did at that conference which was a sports financing or something like that conference, the whole thing was brought up simply because the topic of how to fund the English pyramid. His whole point was all star games in the US raise hundreds of millions of dollars and if that same success translated, which we know it wouldn’t, it could literally fund the lower leagues year after year.

The idea wasn’t great, and an all star game isn’t in the cards and I don’t really think players would even be up for it even without the congested schedule, but it’s the thought behind it that he was mostly raising a point to and everyone’s ignoring that for the sound bite. Meanwhile other PL owners are sitting on their hands and not having an open conversation about it.
100% agree. At least he's bringing an idea to the table instead of complaining and doing nothing. Perhaps the Brits should act more instead of complain. Otherwise, they won't have any British owners left in the top flight.

They were a big part of it.

Yeah - it was not a coincidence that 3/5th of the leadership group was going to be American. They totally underestimated how sacrosanct the system of promotion/relegation is and thought people would get over it because they got to see Real Madrid vs. Manchester United multiple times per year.

They certainly were a part of it, no doubt, but the Super League didn’t start with Americans and it was absolutely pushed forward by Spain/Italy teams the most. The English clubs don’t necessarily need the Super League but teams in La Liga and Series A are still struggling more so than any other league from Covid. They needed the Super League to happen more so than anyone else. There’s a reason why PL spending as a whole this transfer window toppled every other League dramatically. Point is still valid though. 3 out of the 6 English teams that originally signed up were American owned.

Boehly was actually asked about the Super League in that same conference and I didn’t love his answer. He said something along the lines of “I will never say never because you just never know and will look foolish if you said never and then it happens.” I get what he’s saying and still don’t see it happening at any point, but I would have rather seen an outright dismissal.

Looks like rumors of Antonio Conte going back to Juventus are heating up. Italian journalists are saying that Conte is basically “waiting” for the offer and definitely wants to go back. I’d imagine if it did happen though, which idk if I believe it but it’s Antonio Conte who the hell knows, it wouldn’t be until this summer.

I knew when he was hired he wouldn’t be with the Spurs one term, but I thought he would be there another year after this.

Oh well, need a trophy this year. Kane will leave also.

I wouldn’t count out him being there next season too. It’s just rumors coming only from Italy at this point.

Still, his average life span at a club is about 2 years except for one stint I believe. I think Juventus was his longest stint at a club and that was 3 years I think. So if he stayed next year too it’d be the 2nd longest he’s ever been at a club. He’s just such a fiery guy and extremely stubborn. He’s not afraid to walk away from anyone… see Inter Milan before last season. Won Series A and bounced because they sold players he wanted.

One thing is for certain though.. when he is at your club you have the chance at trophies because he is that good.

Just a reminder to everyone playing fantasy that this week’s games start this afternoon, so the deadline to set your lineup is 1:30 ET. Several games called off, so you may need to make some changes to put out a full squad.

Thanks for the heads up I completely forgot. It messed up my lineup pretty bad. Had 4 players out because of no games and then 2 others at 50% chance of playing.. so I may be missing at max 3 players points this week and at minimum 1 player. Going to be a rough week.

After a formation change, I managed to put out a full team minus a keeper. Pickford is injured and Da Gea doesn’t have a game, but I’m not using one of my two remaining transfers just to fill that gap for one week.

That’s better than I think a lot of will get too. The teams not playing all had valuable FPL players like Reece James, Luis Diaz, Salah, etc. I used my free transfer before the games were cancelled last week and I guess that carrier over? I have 0 free transfers so it must have. I lost 3 in the midfield so that really screwed any formation changes when i also have 2 defenders hurt too with a 50% chance of playing. Oh well, gotta roll with the punches it’s a long season.

I’m just going to say this. Borussia Dortmund fans are amazing. They were loud all game vs City. I watched some YouTube videos on that stadium and wow!

I took Haaland to score by header, today. $50 at +600 to win $350. I lot better odds than Haaland getting a brace, at +250
