Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

I absolutely HATE this particular rule change. One of the best things about the sport is that you could just about set your watch by when the games would end. I could easily make my plans on the knowledge that if Everton kicked off at 10AM, they would be done by 11:55 at the absolute latest. Now, who knows?
Agree completely. My wife hates soccer the least out of my sports obsessions because she knows it’s legitimately 2 hours at the most.

Obviously weird rules and such, but good to get the win. Just glancing through the head to head games, looks like this is the first win over City since july 2020 in the FA Cup

and none of the games in the last three years were draws. They were all losses...
It’s a win vs Pep. You never take that for granted no matter the circumstances.

I created an account, picked one goalie and then decided it’s too complicated for my small brain.
Feel free to ask for any help you may need. You pick 2 goalies, 5 def, 5 mid, and 3 fwds. You have 100 mil to do so.

Then you just choose who to start in like a 4-4-2, 3-4-3, etc.

As much as I want Kane to stay, this is stupid if true.

Sources: Spurs reject Bayern's €100m+ Kane bid

Why? That's about what we stand to lose if we miss out on the Champions League again. Which we almost certainly will if we sell Harry Kane.

Not to mention, as frustrating as our club hierarchy has been over the past couple decades, I don't question them much on money. They know how to make boatloads of that at least.

Harry has been pretty clear that his preference would be to win trophies at Tottenham but if he can't do that, he will go somewhere else. Who knows, maybe Ange gets us to a cup final this year? We have plenty of talent going forward if we can fix the LCB and GK positions (We've already signed Vicario and Van de Ven but they were more up and comers than established stars). I don't mind betting on yourself to try and convince Harry to sign a new contract during the season. Hopefully we can surprise some people. Outside of Man City, I don't think the next 6 or 7 teams have all that much separation between them talent-wise.

That’s a hell of a gamble to lay down on a manager who has never coached in the top 5 leagues, let alone in the best league in the world. Not saying it can’t happen. I’ve heard lots of good things about Ange but it’s a huge gamble none the less.

Even on top of that, Bayern is a good landing spot if you are a Spurs supporter. Won’t have to watch him against your team or in the PL. Let him leave for free next year and I bet you see him in a United, City, Arsenal or Chelsea shirt.

No way in hell Harry ever wears Arsenal colors. Free or not.

As far as Ange goes, yeah I agree it's a gamble but it probably looks like less of a gamble to Spurs fans. Kane genuinely loves the club and I think if he had it his way, he would stay here and win trophies. If we show decent signs of success there is a very real possibility he resigns next season. Plus we massively underachieved last year with the talent we had. If we will actually go spend 50 million on a LCB, we might even be pretty good next season. Son, Kane and Kulu as the front 3 with Maddison and Lo Celso as the 8's is pretty solid going forward. The question will be how many goals do we let in? If we can keep it under 40 or 45, I like our chances of finishing in the Champions League spots.

Turning your nose up at a €100M offer in hand is a bold strategy when the flip side of the coin is losing him on a free in nine months. Even if Spurs do qualify for CL, that’s far from a guarantee than Kane will decide to stay. But what if they don’t qualify? They’re left with no CL, no Kane and no €100M to invest back into the squad. That would be catastrophic.

He's arguably the best number 9 in world football at the moment and the Germans have zero chance of landing him on a free next summer so I'm honestly of the opinion that 100 million euros is actually a bit cheap if they want him that badly.

And yes, as I've already said, it is a gamble. But I actually like the move. Maybe it will finally force Daniel Levy to spend all that money he's been stuffing in his pockets over the past 20 years.

Hell yeah, make him spend.

I do look forward to this club with Ange’s style of play, though if Dier is still starting, oh boy. I would be very happy if Kane is there for another season, but as mentioned, what a gamble.

Who knows, it’s a crazy sport, but I do feel like even CL may not be enough to keep him. He’s been through it before. High hopes, new manager, and then it bottoms out. Maybe he just looks for a reset. We will see! Excited for this weekend.

I’m far from an expert on all the ins and outs of Spurs finances, so serious question…

Has he been stuffing it in his own pockets, or simply trying to fund a state of the art new ground in a country where those sorts of projects get zero public funding? I know Arsène Wenger cried poverty for YEARS after Arsenal moved to The Emirates.

ENIC bought the majority stake in the club for like 22 millions pounds back in 1991. They spent roughly twice that in their takeover over the next 15 years or so until getting up to their current 85% in 2007. The club is valued at over 3 billion pounds now so I'd say it was a pretty good investment if they ever decide to sell. Plus that stadium is a huge money maker year round with concerts and NFL games.

Tottenham is usually considered one of the financially better run sides in the Premier League but they have left a lot to be desired on the football side of things in the past couple of decades. They make good decisions when it comes to money but not so good ones when it comes to football strategy. Like hiring two win-now defensive managers and only buying them a combined 2 center backs (Romero and Rodon) in 4 seasons.

Kane is great. Kane scores. But. He is on the wrong side of 30 and could leave on a free next season.

He's definitely been through it before but I think that's what Levy is banking on: Kane's affection for his boyhood club. I do think he leaves if this Ange experiment goes belly up though. Either way, I'm stoked to finally see everyone back in action. Hopefully we won't leak goals for the first 6 months of the season.

I've kept up with the friendlies and they seemed promising (at least on the attacking side of things). We should be dangerous going forward, especially if Kane stays. If Van de Ven is the answer at LCB, then we may have a pretty good year. If not, we could be Leeds 2.0. Vicario has been pretty meh in goal for me so far. I wish we would have stumped up the cash for Raya.

And it is a gamble, but I'm not sure that Bayern don't have one more bid in them. They still have 6 days before Brentford and if they finally offer what Levy is wanting, he might take the money.
