Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

Both really talented, young and set up on 8 year deals. Not my money, but man, it’s a lot.
I agree 100%, they are 2 of the best in the world at that position and will be for a few years potentially. But like you said, I don’t have money in it, but it’s a lot of change. They broke their own European transfer record at the same position which is what surprised me.

Does anybody have any understanding of why it’s so long before the replays of matches broadcast on Peacock are made available to watch on demand? That’s my biggest gripe about the whole service.

If it’s on USA or NBC, I can simply record it and watch at my leisure, but if I can’t literally watch the Peacock matches live, it’s over 24 hours before they’re available. In 2023 is that’s a long time to try and avoid all spoilers.

Kepa deal is weird to me. He only has 2 years left and he won’t get an extension, but now we are left with Sanchez who couldn’t even win the starting spot at Brighton. On top of that, it’s a straight loan. No obligation or option to buy. He comes back next summer most likely as Real Madrid won’t buy him when Curtois is back. I just don’t get it.
Yea it's a little odd. He wasn't even their first choice.

I'm also surprised Chelsea doesn't have a kit sponsor yet

Yeah it’s not what Chelsea wanted either. They were trying to keep the deal at 100M or lower all summer but Liverpool forced their hand.

Chelsea-Liverpool, draw. SHOCKER.

Gotta say, I’m pretty thrilled with the performance. Miles better than we looked at any point last year.

I think Chelsea fans should be very happy with the result. As a Liverpool fan, I’m concerned, and it’s clear that further quality signings are needed.

Both teams showed good things and both teams showed where they need to improve. Looks like we will both keep shopping another few weeks until the window closes.

Maybe it’s different for different games. I didn’t get in from work until about 6 on Friday, and opened Peacock only to find that the replay of City/Burnley wasn’t going to be available until 9PM the following night. Tomorrow’s (8/14) game between United and Wolves says replay available 8/15 as well.

Were you using the Premier League hub or scrolling through all the listings?

Chelsea going to land Caicedo and Lavia, both. Liverpool with massive egg on their faces. Amateur hour over at Merseyside...
I thought for sure Lavia was going to end up at Anfield. Apparently Joe Shields, who is Chelsea’s technical director of the academy, was instrumental in Lavia wanting to go to Chelsea. Shields is who first scouted and brought Lavia to Man City academy and then followed Shields to Southampton.

Where do you think Klopp and company turn to next? Saw they reached out to Real Madrid about Tchoumeni but reports are there’s no chance he wants to move.

It is time to trade Klopp for Berhalter.

While this was funny, Klopp certainly has accountability over this. Along with scouts and others in the front office.

They managed to lose Lavia (who really desired a Liverpool move) because they wouldn't get close to asking price three separate times. Then they overbid for Caicedo and sabotage themselves in both deals.

Bad business all the way around...

Truthfully, I'm not sure they have many options. I'm now hearing Tyler Adams name mentioned and my US homerism aside, he's extremely underwhelming compared to others that were on the market.

LFC has had a bunch of front office and personnel departures over the past year, and I think that's beginning to rear its head. Shoot, lets take some of those funds and poach Brighton's front office and player scouts ;)

Caicedo's deal is supposedly £127m over 8 years. £305,000 week.

Absolutely nutty how much Chelsea have spent the past year and a half...
As a person whose favorite team is a Serie b side, I still have trouble wrapping my head around it. The kind of money dropped by the big clubs these days just is beyond me.

While a little close at the end, your team still came away with the W over the weekend @mad4vols

How did the new signings look to you?

That won’t end up being correct. Wages are notoriously hard to pin down on websites. They will even be different depending on what journalist you listen to. Chelsea have also been using more Americanized contracts, not just in length, but in incentives as well like appearances, performance and even things like being in CL football.

Enzo Fernandez for instance, who has similar sales price as Caicedo, has a base weekly wage under 150k. That can go up depending on the year and where they are in terms of European football. Think what I read was he can max out around upper 200k to lower 300k. That’s coming from journalists that cover Chelsea. Yet, if you look online, sites will just say “Enzo makes 300k/week.” But it’s not necessarily true.

But yes, the overall spend is definitely nutty. Boehly has certainly pissed off the European world of football. Talks of even Liverpool reporting Chelsea over spending 😂. Thing is, if you really dig into it and listen to people who know FFP and accounting for football, they all say that while the spending isn’t sustainable, it’s still well within regulations at the present. I think we will need to sell a few players before next summer to avoid a “slap on the wrist” from FFP, but it won’t be hard for Chelsea to stay under the limit if they do.
