I disagree. His straight-line speed is still good and his leadership is great, but he lacks burst and lateral quickness. Liverpool for the past two years has been conceding too many goals. Without Allison, you'd probably have 3 losses already. He certainly hasn’t been the same since Pickford’s scissor kick on his knee, but I do feel like thus far this season he looks like VVD of old. He has been immense this season (with exception to the red).
A few takeaways from this…
- Getting things right after the fact and apologizing doesn’t do any good. Luckily it didn’t really have any bearing on the outcome, but for City’s goal against Fulham not to be ruled interference was laughable.
- The whole process is much, much, much more chaotic than I would have expected. A lot going on and a lot of people talking all at once.
- Every one of the match officials seem horribly out of shape. Most of the sound in the mics during the run of play is just them gasping for breath.
- It would probably help if the VAR team were a completely independent group who maybe didn’t even know the on-field refs at all. Even from these short clips you can tell that these guys are all buddies (not surprising given it’s a group of 10-12 at most) and hesitancy to embarrass their friends on such a public stage may lead to a degree of bias where they go in looking for reasons not to overturn their calls.
Sports gambling has been legal in the UK forever. I doubt that is playing a huge role at present. That said, I loathe sports gambling, and wish it had never been legalized here. There may not be a single topic on this planet that causes my eyes to glaze over and roll back in my head faster than listening to people talk about their wagers on games, lol.Why is officiating so bad across all sports despite numerous technological advances? Corruption is the only thing that comes to mind. With so much money involved in all sports + sports gambling becoming legal, I can't help but think sports are becoming a crock. It's really unfortunate and diluting my fandom.

Regarding officiating, who would even want to be a PL referee at this point? Verbally abused by players, and god knows what they endure online and in public from the fans. Their pay is shockingly low as well upon a quick google search. The top guys seem to be earning in the $150k-$200k range. Sure that’s a good living, but you have to grind away in the lower leagues for a long time, and as mentioned earlier, there’s only 10-15 of those jobs in all of England. Certainly wouldn’t be for me.
Should be a good one! Gunners haven't been playing up their potential IMO, but have yet to lose which is niceWell.... Tottenham are my only team in good form at the moment. Tennessee only managed to show up for about 15 minutes Saturday night and Green Bay just blew a 2 score lead in the 4th quarter this afternoon. At least Spurs are 2nd in the table for the time being.
North London Derby on Sunday. I'm already anxious.
Spurs not having to worry about Euro football could be an advantage next weekend.Should be a good one! Gunners haven't been playing up their potential IMO, but have yet to lose which is nice
I do wonder how Arteta will manage the squad with the Wednesday Champions League game this week (feels good to say that after some years)
Ah, and there is also the Hammers/Liverpool game, both of which are top 6 in the table at the moment, so that could be another good one this coming weekend
