Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

Anyone else think it’s weird that even 4 days later the bad call against Liverpool is front page news. We’ve all seen worse calls that have cost teams 3 points much less 1.
It’s getting a bit silly in my opinion. If your club has been in the Premier League for more than 2 seasons, then you’ve been on the wrong end of a VAR call. It’s astounding to me how many people seem to think that technology designed and operated by humans is somehow going to be error free. This is a sport, referees are going to make mistakes. That’s the price you pay for playing. It just sucks when it happens to you.

If they had made the correct call, Liverpool would have been up 1-0 with over an hour still to play. They were on the road and already down a man. They weren’t even outplaying Tottenham when it was 11 on 11. They might steal a point if the Diaz goal counts but it’s extremely unlikely they take all 3. The narrative that the call against Diaz somehow cost Liverpool 3 points is really confusing to me.

So that’s North America hosting 2026, Europe, Africa and South America hosting 2030. FIFA shamelessly clearing the deck to let the Saudis host 2034, but who could possibly expect any less from them.

In regards to refs/VAR, I've been standing on the soapbox clamoring for improvements since the start of the season. Obviously I'm a LFC fan, but I don't think this should be viewed as LFC whining. The best league in the world should also have the best referees and standards. CL qualification and relegation mean the difference in millions for clubs, and a single point can determine these circumstances - never mind winning the league. I just want the results to be as fair as possible. I realize there will always be human error to some extent, which is why I think human intervention should be removed from the game as much as possible. I thought that is what the offside & goal line technologies were designed for. Lets not forget that Simon Hooper was also the ref for Wolves v United - 2 colossal mistakes and we aren't even through a quarter of the season. The offside decision alone didn't cost LFC 3 points (maybe just 1), but that is if you don't consider the other mistakes made in the game. A panel just came out and said the Jota red card was incorrect and they only looked at the second foul. They didn't look at the first where Jota never touched Udogie (Udogie tripped himself). Never mind Udogie laying on the ground waving his hand to the ref to give Jota a card (who I believe was on a yellow) when I thought such actions were supposed to be more scrutinized this year and considered a cardable offense. Jota's one game ban still stands. While it is more debatable, I don't think Curtis red card was correct either and several pundits have said the same. Either way, LFC have received more red cards this season than they amassed in the previous 4 years with one of those already successfully appealed. Also debatable, but there was a penalty shout on Gomez and it appeared van de Ven didn't win the ball. The players and managers can't talk about these incidents in fear of repercussions which seems like a dictatorship. I don't think this all is necessarily a coincidence after the Klopp and Paul Tierney incident at the end of last season.

Sorry, LFC gets no sympathy from me. Like Klopp as a tactical manager, but he spends so much time complaining and acting the victim, it gets old. Much of the team is the same. Hopefully Bruno Fernandez and Jack Grealish can move to LFC, so the name can officially be changed to Whingerpool.
That said, Salah is special, and I really like the new signing Gravenberch as one for the future.

As a Tottenham fan, I want to beat Arsenal and Chelsea more than any other clubs in the Premier League and it’s not even close. I typically root against them when they aren’t playing us as well, if I’m being honest.

That being said, Liverpool and United have got to have the most obnoxious, entitled fan bases in the Premier League and I don’t think that’s close either. And honestly, I don’t really have much of a rooting interest with respect to those clubs when they aren’t playing Tottenham.

My mother and little brother are Liverpool fans so I’ve had to deal with the whining and complaining for years. However, this week has reminded me just how much of a fit that fan base can throw when something doesn’t go their way.

When Simon Hooper or Darren England f*%# up a major call in your side’s match this year, I guess we can join in unison.
I’m a Tottenham fan. I’m used to things not going my way.

You won’t hear a peep out of me if the referees screw us over. It happens every year sooner or later.

San Mamés last night for Athletic Club vs. Almería. I didn't know any of Athletic Club's history before yesterday, and if you don't know it go look it up. The Basque pride really comes through. Incredible atmosphere, not really "Spanish" at all.

Bissouma is one of those players that can have moments of brilliance, peppered with moments of absolute ineptitude.

The fact that they have been able to stay up using only Basque players for so long is incredible.

I actually feel bad for Hojlund. Seems to have a good attitude and think he could be a player. Otherwise, crap team. Pretty sure Mount is Manchester United's Jeremy Pruitt (player version).

They have some talent on the squad. They just aren’t getting Ten Haag this season.

Rashford is streaky as heck. Sancho is a headcase. Antony is crap and gives the ball away far more than he makes a good move (plus he is so dominant left foot he is super easy to mark). Eriksen, Varane and Casemiro are all good quality bench "leaders" who give depth but also make your actual starters in that position better, because they have done it at the highest level (which has now passed them by). They are not starters. Bruno spends too much time complaining about everything, while at the same time being responsible for 75% of giveaways, but he is probably the only one other than Rashford capable of moments of elite skill. The rest of the midfield is mediocre (or young and underdeveloped like Hannibal, Garnacho and Pellistri). Martinez is too short and Wan-Bissaka, while good on defense, is not good going forward. Shaw is always injured and the rest of the defense is just bad. Onana is truly bad.
Ten Haag is a nothing manager. There is no identifyable style of play
